I'm someone who stands for peace not war
So much fear. The irony, of course, is you are handing the terrorists their victory on a silver platter. It's an unnecessary risk and it is not in the best interest of the US. If denying them entry into the US would put them over the edge and turn them into Jihadists, what would happen when they saw all the Muslims we were killing with our airstrikes? Appeasement is not the solution, I thought Europe would have learned this by now.
Well, it's a good thing no Christian ever sent out an email like that!Very revealing and frankly scaring. But good insight into the Islamic religion (if I can even call it that)
Related to this, let me ask you for an opinion. I received an email with the title: Yes, I am a Muslim
Here is most of what he said, and he was looking for conformation and approval and for me to "join" him in his pursuits.
"Today, I’m asking all Americans of every faith to join me to denounce Donald Trump’s hate speech.
His plan to shut Muslims out of America has no place in our Democracy. His prejudice against Muslims is reckless, dangerous and racist. Trump doesn’t understand what makes America great. We are a nation of different faiths, but we share a common belief that our differences only make us better, and together -- we can build a stronger America. That is the greatness of our nation. Every day, Muslims in America like myself are working hard to strengthen our communities. Muslim Americans own businesses. We are leaders in communities, teachers in local schools and members of the Armed Forces. We are fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers. And we are your neighbors. Simply put: We are Americans."
Well, I was a little taken aback and at first thought I would delete it and ignore. This email went out to thousands of people and I must have gotten on a list somewhere. (I am in several Christian organizations - but there is no need to name them)
But I decided to give him a "piece of my mind" so to speak.
Before I tell you what I said, I'd like you to give me some of your thoughts on what you would have said. (keep it short)
I fear nothing but God. The worst thing they could do to me is kill me and death is inevitable regardless so I could care less when it happens. So much fear. The irony, of course, is you are handing the terrorists their victory on a silver platter.
I could care less
So if you're not afraid, why are you so keen to bar entry to all Muslims? Oh wait, I think I see. It's another instinctive base human drive. Not fear exactly, just closely related.I fear nothing but God. The worst thing they could do to me is kill me and death is inevitable regardless so I could care less when it happens.
My bad. "So I couldn't care less." I would have stepped more cautiously if I knew I was dealing with a high level grammar Nazi.Do Americans who mangle this phrase lack the basic grammatical skills to parse that they're saying the opposite of what they intend? Honest question?
The language is a rapier, not a bludgeon. One doesn't grunt because "we all knew what you meant". Civilised people, anyway. I only make issue of it because you're the 4th or 5th American I've seen use that phrase in as many days. Is there an explanation? My bad. "So I couldn't care less." Did a little research. The phrase "I couldn't care less" started in Britain and then came to America and over time it was changed to "I could care less." Both are idioms and idioms do not have to be logical. The meaning of the phrase is established by its usage. Both of these phrases are used in a sarcastic manner to basically say "this does not concern me," or "I have very little interest."The language is a rapier, not a bludgeon. If we look at the Old Testament, it is clear that this referred to a specific point in time in a specific circumstance. The last major chapter of the Quran that was supposedly revealed to Muhammad was chapter 9 and this was basically his marching orders. Verse 29 tells Muslims to fight the people of the Book (Jews and Christians), until they are subjugated and forced into a state of humiliation while also paying the Jizyah which is a tax for non-Muslims. The importance of this being the last major chapter that was supposedly revealed is that it abrogates any other command that came before it and contradicts it.I couldn't care less about idioms, I've heard people here saying that Islam is a terrorist religion. Actually in some ways so is Christianity if we look at the Old Testament. Let me tell you one thing though, hate speeches lead to terror. And that's what Trump is doing, he's a hate preacher.
Words retain their meaning. Idiom doesn't remove them. Saying "I could care less" to indicate a lack of caring is nonsensical.Did a little research. And a Muslim scholar with no agenda told you this?If we look at the Old Testament, it is clear that this referred to a specific point in time in a specific circumstance. no Armored I actually read my bible cover to cover, in case you want an example here is oneAnd a Muslim scholar with no agenda told you this?
I assure you I agree with you that someone cherry picking the Bible for apparent violence and intolerance can easily do so. In a larger Christian context, we understand those verses aren't actually telling us to go out and stone people.no Armored I actually read my bible cover to cover, in case you want an example here is one
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10) (Stoning anyone?)
Here's another one
If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)
