  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

[sarcasm] I'm so thankful doctors believe we are mutant, copy-errors, made in the image & likeness of God back around 197,985 BC. If not for that, I couldn't have gotten my medication. [/sarcasm]

Kinda sounds like you've got an attitude problem, mister.

Well yeah, that stuff I do already know. Agree with that analogy for sure. I just hadn't heard of a old earth creation b4. So that means you agree with scientists on the age of the universe & you don't think everything was created in 6 days? The thing you don't agree on is evolution?

Old Earth Creationism is actually a bigger branch than Young Earth Creationism. You should look into it. It's very diverse.

I don't agree with evolution because I feel that is in extreme conflict with Original Sin.

OK. I will. I'm trying to learn the basics for now. So the reason you don't agree with evolution is cause of your beliefs on scripture & not cause of the evidence? Can you explain the conflict with original sin & evolution?

Evolution dictates that we were already carnal and wicked, rather than having been created and tempted by Lucifer which is the biblical cause of the Fall.

The Big Bang was hypothesized by a theologian and astrophysicist priest. Of course, this is buried under the secular bias- Darwin is the founder of evolution, Newton discovered laws of gravity, Galileo is the founder of modern science.. but the mention of the founder of the Big Bang is left out.
My aunt had the great privilege of being one of the mathematicians that worked as an assistant to Hubble. When she first started there, the prevalent theory was the Steady State theory, which presumed the Universe had always existed and had simply gone on the way it was going on today. Obviously this made things very easy for Atheists. She told me that many of her atheist friends were upset when the Big Bang was discovered. Why? I asked. "Because," she said, "It meant there was a beginning."

But science is science, and good scientists will follow the evidence wherever it leads. It is to the credit of these atheists that they have accepted the Big Bang.

Now, I wish fundamentalist would do the same and accept evolution.

How does evolution dictate that we're already carnal & wicked?

Jesus is a creationist.

I'll follow His lead -- not Darwin's.

Darwin died.

Lucifer told Eve that if she ate from the Tree of Knowledge, she would know good from evil. This ended up cursing mankind, which would have already been the case if we evolved because we'd already be complete in our carnal, adversarial nature.

How is Jesus a creationist as y'all believe in it today?
Do you believe the Bible is the word of God?

If so, didn't Jesus write, "In the beginning, God created ..."?

Yes I sure do believe the Bible is the word of God. That doesn't mean "in the beginning" means what you think it means. It reads like a poem not like history. That's how I take it.

So Jesus was quoting poetry when He said ...

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

Atheists can't enjoy talking to fellow atheists. The only thing entertaining for them is to attempt upsetting Christians. There is a Christian site that engages atheists and has several atheists that post daily; Theology Online
TOL.
That's silly, there are atheist forums. Also, I take no joy in upsetting people. Besides, my boyfriend is an atheist too, and we spend multiple hours a week talking to each other. Sometimes about religion, but mostly not.n

There must be a myriad of atheist perspectives and varied beliefs that are justified with even worse data. Why not enjoy the lost atheists ?
Closest I can think of is super ignorant anti-theists, who tend to actually attack religion and be general butts to others.

Why is it important to you to believe that's all literal & not allegorical? (Not asking to be in your face, just for real trying to understand.)

I'm not sure that I follow this argument. For one thing, it's pretty clear that Genesis is a very poetic and mythical book. Its authors obviously weren't modern, scientific thinkers, but they probably didn't believe that what they were writing down was literally true. The first chapter of Genesis is structured in a way about midway between prose and Hebrew poetry, and the rest involves a lot of analogies and symbols that, if taken literally, lead to a position that even the ancient Hebrews would have considered strange. For another, experiencing good and evil is different from understanding it. Adam and Eve eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. My cat experiences good and evil, but he doesn't know the difference. He's just my little fuzzle. Knowing good from evil is uniquely human. Evolving from animals that couldn't understand good and evil wouldn't grant us the knowledge of those things.

Does saying that an invertebrate grew a backbone and became a vertebrate, make it true?
There is in reality, not much evidence of this.
That's where you are mistaken. There is ample evidence. Enough to fill science books.
I may well be mistaken if you really have that much evidence.
.
Please give me your foremost and strongest direct evidence that an invertebrate grew a backbone and became a vertebrate.

The Book of Giants from the DSS implies it in the fragments. And though it is not Scripture because it contradicts blatantly the Bible and many of the extra books like Jubilees the so-called (fake) book of Jasher I think mentions this too, and I'm sure it does preserve certain truths through Jewish tradition. Like Books I accept as Scripture say angels can materialize and dematerialize and shapeshift and stuff like that, and in Jasher it says Satan actually transformed himself into a great big body of water.
Ohhh Kay.

I need to ask why you choose True Science as your online name. Your beliefs are more the opposite of science than just about anyone else I have encountered in this forum.
