  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is the theory of evolution moral and ethical

MY sincerity is doubted? Yet, YOU are the one making claims about "wisdom" and "foolishness", but cannot give even one example to support your claim.

MY sincerity?

In this thread, you have perpetuated an incessant pattern of condescension and sarcasm. Why would I not take your comment as more of the same? Its true, I do lack a certain amount of wisdom at times, however humility puts my on the right path once again. Its also unwise to deny God, so it seems we both lack wisdom.

Yet you were using that scripture to specifically criticise scientific knowledge, to whit, evolutionary biology. Are you now saying that you twisted that scripture to suit your purposes here?

Tell me again about sincerity.
like sudo science doesn't twist theories n a bunch of gobblygoop to explain the unknown.... I heard some big words that said nothing from many who claim to have the power of truth

You are painting all scientific knowledge with a broad brush. You are asserting that ToE is above reproach, and infallible. I'm not sure how that's science, it seems to be closer to idealism.

1. The theory does NOT state that we evolved from apes.

2. Being a Christian and accepting evolutionary theory are NOT mutually exclusive conditions.

I know, the theory is much worse. It actually says that man evolved from a creature that was much less intelligent and evolved than an ape. An ape would be an improvement by comparison. However, it still maintains that man once resembled an ape, and lived like one, although much less intelligent than an ape. So I'm not wrong in saying it was an ape.

Not at all. The hallmark of any scientific theory is that it MUST be capable of falsification. There are literally hundreds of ways to falsify the theory of evolution, any one of which would send it crashing into dust.

Have at it.

I see. So your claim that man's wisdom is made foolishness, is specifically pointing to evolutionary theory. Yet, you still cannot provide an example to support that claim.

This is you being humble?

I like to use the word ape for a reason. When we give this alleged human ancestor a scientific name, then it camouflages the reality of what is being alleged. Its not unlike political spin or brainwashing. Giving it a scientific name makes it much easier to swallow. However when we call it an ape, it gives us a much more clear picture of what we are alleging.

Giving it a scientific name provides accuracy! Calling it an 'ape' is simply inaccurate.

No, the scripture seems to be saying that God "made" (past tense) mans wisdom foolishness. This is so no flesh could glory in his presence, and that no one would think they are righteous without God. Without God we are nothing, and we need to learn that, because to deny him is like denying the air we breath, its futile. I gave an opinion, I said that because God made mans wisdom to be foolishness, that he also allowed him to believe that he evolved from apes. I admit that this opinion is not stated in the scripture, it was an opinion.

No, giving it a scientific name is not wrong, but its hardly wrong to call it an ape too, because it was allegedly nothing more than a primitive ape creature. I think that you know how ridiculous it sounds to suggest that humans evolved from ape creatures, and that's why you don't want to call it an ape. YOu would rather use spin to paint this ape in pretty colors.

No, it seems obvious that God allowed man to believe he evolved from apes, and its not unreasonable to theorize that it was for the purpose of shaming him so man would not glory in Gods presence. Its not imagination, its theory.

My understanding is that current thinking would describe it more like a smaller version of a lemur.

Does this prospect make you feel less offended? More?

You seem to have an inordinate dislike for apes. Were you insulted by a chimpanzee at some time in the past, perhaps?

And how do you know was much less intelligent than an ape? And just how is an ape an improvement over its ancestors? You speak as if evolution is a general trend toward some absolute better being. Darwinian evolutionary theory says no such thing. One might take you seriously if you could at least get the claims of Darwin right.

It doesn't seem like you understand what Science means when it says "theory".

Also, we're homosexuals, and we're people. So I'd advise you to treat us as such.

Yes, you are every much a person as the next guy. People sometimes (well all the time) want to point out one sin over another. The fact is we are all sinners but not just sinners but depraved sinners. I admit wholeheartily that I sin more than anyone else. I have impure thoughts. I have lust where I should not. I desire money or things more than I should. I don;t help the sick and homeless like I should. Simply put, I am bad, very bad in God's eyes. I lie, cheat and steel. And even if it's not in person but in my mind I still think it. Anybody, I mean anybody who says they never have any sin and think they are pure is simply lying. They are lying to themselves and to others by putting on a false sense of puritianism. They are like the Pharisee of the bible. They make everyone think they are goody goody. Ive been around people like that. If we lie we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But the real truth of the gospel is that Christ died for me, for you, and for all of us that have faith in what he did for us. I deserve death, and hell but the good news is simply the gospel. If not for the gospel I'd be lost and doomed that is the truth.

You keep forgetting (ignoring) the fact that we are apes.

Would it be easier for you to stomach if instead evolution said we evolved from mammals? Or that we evolved from vertebrates?
