So, I asked the question before. Did a group of wise people MADE THAT SERIOUS MISTAKE? If so, Why?

I don't need a philosophy degree. But I was given one. I want to know what is the justification.

I don't think there is a justification and it's clearly a mistake.

1. You think people should not create the Ph.D. title at the first beginning. (i.e. All Ph.D.s do not really merit that title)
2. You think my school, my department and my professors made a big mistake by giving me one.

I'll agree with one of those two points...

Let's be honest shall we? You asked if those who conferred some degree upon you made a mistake. When you ask that, don't get upset when someone answers...

You've never demonstrated an expertise in any field of knowledge the entire time I've seen you post here. Any field...

You don't seem to be able to grasp what the word "philosophy" means in PhD.

What other conclusion can I arrive at? Yes, your degree was given mistakenly.

In modern terms you don't get a philosophy degree unless you study philosophy. The title 'Doctor of Philosophy' is just a convention, a tradition from the days when 'philosophy' had a slightly different usage than today, e.g. science was called 'natural philosophy' - as I'm sure you already know. And when a woman or a married man qualifies with a BSc. (Batchelor of Science) or BA (Batchelor of Arts) they don't become a batchelor.

From a philosophical view, persistent equivocation of the term can be seen as either ignorant or mendacious...

You are still saying those people (I am interested to know who were they) made a big mistake when they decided to give the title Ph.D. to scientist.

OK, try not to give you any harder time. Is the "natural philosophy" not a part of philosophy? If yes, why can't a Ph.D. be called a philosopher?

But as a field of study today, philosophy refers to a certain type of inquiry into human meaning, investigating logic, epistemology, values, and so on.

For example, you can get a PhD in engineering, but no one would say are a philosopher. You are an engineer.

If English is your first language, I don't understand how you could have written an acceptable doctoral thesis.

With a geology PhD, chances are you'd be no better equipped for philosophy than someone with a bachelors degree in geology. That geology "Ph" doesnt indicate any knowledge in the field of philosophy.
