  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why does the earth rotate?

What would you do if you met Jesus on the road?
Rebuke him.

Mark 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:

Can you explain why you believe we have a geocentric earth?
I don't.

Only educated people interpret the Scriptures as "flat earth."

That post was a joke.

Throughout this thread I asked you why you believed the earth was flat. You finally answered that your beliefs were rooted in ancient Buddhist beliefs. I accepted that and didn't pursue it, you have a right to your beliefs.

However, now you post a video that basically says the "spherical earth" concept is supported by a US Government conspiracy and falsified GPS information. Furthermore, the video claims that this conspiracy is supported by the airline industry.
Furthermore the claims made in the first minute of the video are not substantiated.

In earlier posts, I reminded you the the Dali Lama supported a spherical earth. This was long before GPS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth (Emphasis mine)
The flat Earth model is an archaic conception of the Earth's shape as a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures subscribed to a flat Earth cosmography, including Greece until the classical period, the Bronze Age and Iron Age civilizations of the Near East until the Hellenistic period, India until the Gupta period (early centuries AD) and China until the 17th century.

All long before GPS and before there even was a US Government. According to your way of thinking, all these civilizations created or partook in a massive conspiracy regarding the shape of the earth.

Two simple questions for you to answer:

How big is the sun?
How far "above" the earth is the sun?

I'll be sure to remember it when someone tries to witness to me ;)
What would you do if you met Buddha on the road?

Wasn't he what we would call a "deadbeat dad"?

Up and left his wife and son?

Correction, Jesus is God and He made it crystal clear His words and Scripture were absolutely true to the nth degree.

Please. Anyone can write a book containing an assurance that it is true. Doesn't mean that it is.

I see your assertion, but your failure to show us any of the math involved, speaks much more eloquently.

(sound of goal posts being frantically repositioned)

There is no math involved in knowing what time is.

Sounds like Dad has run out of excuses.

If you want the math on the expansion of the universe, keep in mind that God stretched the universe to almost the size it is today.

So the math you are looking for would be:

DISTANCE/VELOCITY = TIME

If the velocity is ZERO due to God having done it at the speed of His will, then the equation reads:

DISTANCE/ZERO = TIME

And the answer then would be: TIME = ZERO.

Not sure what is in your mind about math. Seems off topic. Show us how it 'speaks' to the topic?

We already get it. You don't understand it well enough to even discuss what it's about. So until you pick up that piece, we'll wait for you to respond.
Show us something you think I don't understand. Math dealing with the far universe or the past maybe? Anything....

Busted ye be kid.

The part of the video which is of interest to me is the main point made that no flights go over the "south pole". I do not endorse any other claims made in that video.

I have no association with the Dalai Lama; he is not representative of authentic Buddhism, in my view.

I do not know for sure how big the sun is, or how far above the Earth it is. I do suspect that it is far smaller than commonly believed, and it may be no more than a few hundred miles above the Earth.

I would pay a Buddha great honor and respect.

Wasn't he what we would call a "deadbeat dad"? Up and left his wife and son?
Not at all, when judged by his culture, in his time. It is honorable to depart for and seek the spiritual life after the husband has fulfilled his earthly duty to his wife by giving her a child and providing for their physical needs. The Buddha did all of that.

BTW, if that was the part of the video that you felt was important, you could have indicated the time in the clip where these assertions were made instead of having me watch the entire clip.

Yes, if it's only a few hundred miles up it would have to be FAR SMALLER than its scientifically determined diameter of about 864,938 miles.

When you say you "do not know for sure", what you mean is you have absolutely no idea about the size and distance. If you gave consideration to these very basic questions, you might find your own conclusions would cause conflict with your religiously based beliefs. So you avoid even asking them of yourself.
