  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because they're simply elements interacting with each other. For example, the image isn't a photo of 5 'yous'. Or is it?

Well perhaps there is no morality. One could accept that and be consistent.
morality and ethics are a lot more complicated than a simple across the board application.
especially in regards to science.
exactly how far should science go in its quest for answers?
it's definitely NOT a "one answer fits all".

No, here is a sack of chemicals which react to stimuli . You're nothing more than chemical reactions, which isn't really a 'you' any more than any chemical compound is a 'you'.
In what practical sense does this matter?

Seems to me it doesn't measure up to the quality of what a human being is, even IF humans are merely chemicals (a claim I don't support). In fact, I don't even see those particular chemicals even reacting.

Let's here a more reasonable defense of your idea that we can't possibly be made of just chemicals.

It looks like the little fellas are reacting....maybe they're not. Could be they're dead.

Are we interacting as more than chemical reactions in response to stimuli?

Unless they live in the Middle East, then Christians in the US don't seem to have a problem with killing them.
Can any Christian affirm that they want to kill folks in the middle east? Perhsps the drone terrorist Obama is the sort of 'christian' you mean?

You mean the drones that Republicans want the Army to use on muslims?

^ It's really a bummer that this Westboro protestor is so tantalizingly hot and yet so obnoxiously vile. It's easier when their outside matches their inside.

Sorry for the tangent. Haha. I go to an all-girls school so it just got me in the habit of really appreciating boys.

It permits the killing of millions of babies a year for one thing.
I knew you would say that. But I guarantee you can't find a source to support that opinion. It is about a woman's right to choose what happens to her own body, not whether we are some special project or a sack of chemicals.

Please illustrate a situation where I as an atheist would treat someone differently than you would as a Christian.

Why'd you ask me then?

More than 40 million abortions every year according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Actually it's about a sack of chemicals right to choose to destroy another sack of chemicals, isn't it?

Please illustrate a situation where I as an atheist would treat someone differently than you would as a Christian.

There is no 'I' or 'you' in the sack of chemicals world of Darwinist evolution. We're simply chemical reactions acting on various stimuli.

That statistic shows abortions happen, not a materialistic motivation. Did I not predict you would be unable to provide a source?

And you seem to be admitting that you can present no situation where I as an atheist would treat someone differently than you would as a Christian.
