  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The winning in this post...it brings tears to my eyes.

Actually, in reality, we'll all be looking like Robert Redford by the time we emerge from our shelters.

"W-what...what year is it??"

You mean... the women will have epic beards too? Looks like those shelters weren't properly sealed.

A nuclear bomb has just gone off a few miles from your home. You have exactly 5 minutes before the blast gets to you. Luckily, you have a fallout shelter in your basement! What a coincidence! In that five minutes, you have to grab a few things around the house.

1) You have time to make one call. Who is it to? My dad
2) You have time to grab one food and beverage from the fridge, what is it? (something that's in there right now) Water and fruit
3) You have time to set your DVR to record one show: Doctor Who
4) You have time to grab one book off the shelf (you already have a bible in the shelter): Erm, probably my tablet, since thats what I read on.
5) You have time to message one Facebook/CF friend, who is it: I have a group on facebook with all my closest friends.
6) You have time to grab your favorite piece of jewelry/heirloom: None, I wear my cross necklace all the time. Also I dont wear jewelry.
7) In case you don't make it, you have one chance to record a message to the world. What is it? God loves you.
8) You only have time to grab one piece of clothing to wear for the next however long you're stuck in the shelter: a dress.
9) You get to take one picture with you, what is it? All my photo's are in oregon.
10) You have two minutes left, how do you spend it? Taking more food to my shelter.

Everyone should read A Tale of Two Cities. Everyone.
You should seriously go ahead and write me a list of books I need to read haha. I must've lived under a rock growing up. All I checked out at the library was Stephen King and Dean Koontz :D

Eh...Charles Dickens can be quite a bit of a rude awakening when you're coming from only modern day writers. Lol. :sorry: I mean, he's not as challenging as Shakespeare of course, but you still might find him a little difficult.

Yeah I think I mentioned before I have a really hard time comprehending the old archaic English. That's why I never read Shakespeare and really wish I could read Poe. I didn't get the bible until I got a New King James Version.

If I'm going to try to survive the apocalypse, it's going to be for the sake of preserving civilization as best as I can. So my fallout shelter's going to be loaded up with literature, history books, poetry, mathematics, and anything else I can fit in there. Just because we char-broiled the planet (God forbid—shudder) doesn't mean we have to descend into Mad Max's anarchy. I refuse to let it be so.

Yeah I feel stupid adding the DVR question haha. Like, who is going to care about that? Especially when the power goes out haha.

Some folks gotta have their Honey Boo Boo.

Hahaha. Understandable. I think that's why it's not so hard for me because I grew up on KJV and reading a lot of 'condensed' (but not watered down) versions of the classics. That was normal for me. So I think that's why I understand Shakespeare and the classics very well. I like literature that challenges my brain.

Agreed.

But I think a few months of the Apocalypse: Mad Max would be really epic. Then we could all straighten up and be civilized once we'd gotten all our fury off our chests.

You know someone would do that too. "This is so inconvenient! Dance Moms is coming on later!"

Lol. I don't watch that show, but I can relate in a way. I'd never survive an apocalypse. I get so impatient after the power has been out for more than an hour.

Listen. I am NOT going to die in a nuclear apocalypse before I reach the final conclusion of Once Upon a Time.
