  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

... Gee, why are you so quick to judge?
Here is the whole point. One person says crimes were committed by black people, and you say that is judging. You say there were crimes committed by white people, but somehow, you do not consider that judging??? Are you trying to say that this is judging too quickly? We need more in the way of details to see what you are trying to say in your posts.

There are good whites and good blacks equally,
I see no difference.
Madera
If you can say that crimes were committed, THAT IS JUDGING. If you are say white people commit crimes, that is judging. If you say black people commit crimes, that is judging. Is your concern really about judging???

One member here showed a graph about crimes committed by blacks and whites in America. Is that judging? You say that crimes are committed equally, but have not provided anything to support the claims you posted. Where did you get the idea that these things are equal? This point needs to be supported by some type of evidence.

... ps. If crimes were commited how was that judgeing.
Saying a crime is committed by a black person or a white person (anyone else for that matter) is making a judgment as to whether a crime was committed, and who committed it. Are you a judge?

Because of these things, and other things having to do with what your posts, it is difficult to figure out your point.

If you are trying to say something else, this is a good time to state it more plainly.

Perhaps the word judging is the lesser problem, what I am seeing is alot of racism.
Madera
What is said or done here that you are judging as RACISM??? Is someone who disagrees with someone of a different race a racist? Is someone who reads and quotes the facts of a matter a racist? Is someone who asks you for the facts that would back your opinions a racist? What definition of racism indicates someone here is racist?

... Gee, why are you so quick to judge?
Your posts indicate that you are against "Judging," and being "...so quick to judge." Have you not made a quick judgment when you indicate in your post that what you are "... seeing is alot of racism?" Are you saying you see a lot in your house, in your town or specifically in the posts of this thread?

Okay, true story.
When I first came to Alabama from Arizona, I was appalled at the level of racism I found here...and I blamed it pretty much on white attitude toward black. I got very involved in a campaign to have Christmas ornaments put in black neighborhoods, for instance, because I couldn't see why everyone shouldn't enjoy the holiday with lights and Christmas trees or Santa Claus...anyway, it took, believe it or not, three years to win that silly battle. The ornaments went up, and they were just like the ones through the rest of town.
Unfortunately, they did not stay that way. It didn't take our black neighbors a week before half of the new ornaments had been viciously destroyed. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
But, I got back up on my stallion, and rode into the next battle...a lovely park for black children, comparable to the parks in other parts of town. Long story short...the outcome was pretty much the same. It didn't take long for pic nic tables to be uprooted and carried off, swings to be torn down, beer bottles and cans and other debris to fill the empty spaces...and similar damage.
Meantime, it became painfully clear that the prejudice of black toward white was, if anything, even more vicious than white toward black. My son got hit in the head with a beer bottle while walking down the street with his black friend...but the bottle was not thrown by a white hand. And I won't even mention the verbal abuse my pretty daughters have been subjected to simply by being in the same store as black shoppers.
I'm very sorry to say...I've put that stallion out to pasture. I don't think there can be any real positive change until the black community begins to have more respect for themselves. The idea that they need special opportunities tailored just for them is totally ridiculous...they have full access to the same opportunities as anyone else. We have black doctors, for instance, who have struggled from poverty to success, just as we have poor white children who have dropped out of high school to go to work.
Even though our schools are, as per the civil rights act, available to both black and white, it seems that, left to their own choice, black parents would rather send their kids to the poorer school even if they have to pay to bus them there, while white parents in the area tend to bus their kids to the other school. It's weird. But I will say that the "black" school does win more sporting events...

Yeah...I like to think that all of this has not changed my attitude. I'm pretty "easy going" and I have several friends who are black. However, I do think that I'm learning prejudice...but the sad thing is that I'm not learning it from white folks...

That would be a weird thought process. "We hate those people! Let's help them out." We all know how often bigots think like that. Like all those people who hate gays but cheered the gay marriage decision.

Don't you think racism would correlate more with people who think the outcome gap is caused 100% by blacks being stereotypical, and that therefore, we shouldn't do anything to close it? That's a very common opinion, held by some people in this thread.

Sigh. I'd talk to Republicans more if they would stop calling random things "slavery."

When people who are white point out these things, they'll say that it's racist to even mention. But you saw it first-hand. I wish other people would wake up to it as reality. I see it first-hand myself, but don't dare say anything lest I be labeled as racist. About all I can do is let them live the way they want to and try to keep my distance. Oh yeah, I guess that makes me racophobic, or whatever they want to call me. Oh well.

Stop making excuses for your selves.

You seem to be one of these; assume racism first and ask questions later types.

Racism exists, it sure does and it will never completely go away and I am not talking about just racism towards blacks, but racism and prejudice towards all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds.

There is one fact though, that is hard to deny, racism towards blacks in the United States has gotten much less over the last few decades. But for racism in general to improve, it does no one any good, to cry racism, without evidence to show it actually exists.

Or they just can't help but destroy everything and continue living in poverty.

And in my lifetime, I have seen many times when black women were interested in having a relationship with a white man. Some of what you mentioned was rape, and some of it was as much a matter of the black woman desiring that. You have been asked for facts, but all we are getting is irrational accusations, and references to something that happened over 150 years ago.

What has been said here that indicates the person saying it is racist? What is your definition of racism? What facts do you have for your opinions?

White people account for the largest percentage of the population of this nation, and black people for less than 15%. Are you saying there are no more "Good" white people than "Good" black people? These are the things that do not add up. These claims are not being backed with facts. Show us where you get this reasoning.

"Raped"?

I'm sure there were instances where it was rape...but let's don't underestimate the attraction that power can have...

LOL...one thing I have never worried about, Aldebaran, is being "politically correct". Seems that, where ever the crowd is going, I'm usually the one headed in the other direction...

That's a good direction to be going! The road of the politically correct usually doesn't lead anywhere good.
