  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This seems to sum things up in the Protestant/Catholic debate...

Peter's successor would have been post-Scriptural. Successors tend to be named after someone died. Peter's death wasn't in Scripture, either.

Peter and the apostles knew they would have people succeeding them. That's why they came together and named Matthias to succeed Judas. Paul named Timothy and Titus, to name a couple, to succeed him in some of the Churches he started. We know who succeeded Peter as bishop of Rome. They did the same thing Peter himself and Paul himself did.

Why doesnt the Pope do the miracles that Peter did?

Too many statements made without back up.

It doesn't take much to read scripture and see that the apostles appointed bishops across the land. Their successors from the 100s and 200s corroborate this.

The scriptures do not say that a man can make himself a pastor without the support of his fellow Christians.

Protestant Zero Sum Theology:
There is one pie with only so many pieces in that pie. It’s either all Jesus or Jesus has to share slices of that pie with other entities (Pope, Mary, Saints, priests). If the Pope is important, he somehow takes away from
Jesus. If Mary is important, she must be taking something away from Jesus. This is the zero-sum problem. It’s all about addition and subtraction: zero sum.

Catholic Participation Theology:
Christ as a Divine Person of the Trinity can use creatures to magnify His power, grace and glory. So it’s not about addition or subtraction, but about multiplication. The Pope doesn’t subtract from Christ. His office participates within Christ. Mary doesn’t subtract, instead her “soul magnifies the
Lord.”

Fire away!

I would think that the men in the RCC being better than everyone else (since they cannot be wrong regarding faith and morals).. would pretty much sum it up.

The scriptures say that if we keep that which was taught in the beginning then we need no teacher because the anointing will teach us all things. The scriptures are what was taught in the beginning.

How do you know he doesn't? Have you interviewed all 1.3 billion Catholics, or the 7 Billion people in the world?

You are the only one who thinks that this is what the "men in the RCC" think.
Thanks for offering nothing.

I would think that if Pope Francis raised the dead there might be some rumblings about it. Other miracles, possibly...

And I could have sworn that you said that the men in the RCC cannot be wrong with regard to faith and morals?

I'd actually be happy to hear that they're no different than any other men.. although I don't see that rolling off your lips anytime soon. :)

SO a group of men is the key which keeps error at bay?

Exactly. Otherwise people could go off and do what they want, and teach unsound doctrine. If a group gets together and comes to a cohesive conclusion on a particular issue, then that becomes sound doctrine.

I have come to a conclusion. I know all i need to know in order to follow the spirit. Its not all that difficult to understand either. I like scripture because it edifies us and reminds us what we shold be doing, but there really isn't anything else to learn exactly. Love, faith and Hope. I understand that i think.

I suppose it could be, but I believe that a group can offer perspectives that one man/woman can not.

I would agree although what happens when one group comes to one conclusion whereas the other group comes to something different?

Doesn't that revert back to the my group is better than your group type of thing?
