  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, I think you were right? Strawberry margarita? Still has tequila?

I've never actually made one ... I used to go out with a dear friend and we sometimes ordered one with dinner, she favored a Mexican place and her whole family would meet us there, me, my co-workers, everyone's kids. We pretty much just pre-empted one of their rooms. I miss those gatherings. :)

yes it does but when I heard strawberry my mind went to the Cuban version with Rum. The daiquiri. If we must drink rum, let it be dark rum and in the mojito fashion. As minty breath is always nice.

And that is the second of the three mixed drinks I actually like, LOL.

The third I don't have the recipe for. Something from Outback that was frozen and peachy. I don't think they make them anymore?

And I only got one twice, as it seems I was always the one having to drive. The first my sister treated me to on my birthday. I kept wanting another, but for years never got a chance. Then one day we stayed in a motel next door to an Outback, so I walked over and had my second one.

Frozen? I thought they were not?

I've had something called that years back, and it was ALMOST ok, but ... any drink not frozen and sweet doesn't cover the taste of the alcohol for me, LOL.

Yes, a margarita by definition has tequila, no matter what other fruit is added. :)

I just knew this thread was going to go in to strange directions. :)

They can be either frozen or not..ever had a frozen whiskey sour?Surprisingly smooth.

Never heard of it. I may try to remember and try one someday. But basically, if it has liquor in it, it has to be fruit-flavored, frozen, and not taste like alcohol. Basically - a smoothie, lol. Otherwise I don't generally like it.

So far only you are speaking of abuse. Not one post condoned the overuse of alcohol. Abuse of a substance is using it in a manner for which it was not intended. Alcohol was made for the purpose of drinking. So how is having a drink abuse unless one stays with it too long?

I have respect for any who have chosen to abstain for whatever reason they decided. The devil is not in the bottle. Too much time with the bottle may cause one to lose common sense and they may find them self in sin. But that goes for nearly every substance. So eat drink and be merry. Just don't be stupid with your eating, drinking or merry making.

A whiskey sour taste like whiskey. Alcohol is basically tasteless. What one tastes is the impurities. with whiskey its wood tannins and vanilian from the oak as well as the grains used, gin it's the juniper berries, scotch it's the smoke from the peat and with some it's the residual from the malted grain. I kind of like the taste of some when sipped. Tequilla is not one of those. Must be the worm.

In response to the OP since it's my first time in the topic. Teetoling might be better for some since they might take alcohol to excess. But as a general rule, no. I admire those that do make that decision but Idon't think it makes them better apart from recovering alcoholics and drug addicts. It just makes them following The Lord in a unique way.

It would seem that from his point of view, all "chemicals" are "drugs" and are equally heinous, and that any and all use of any of them constitutes abuse. Which also means that I have been abusing drugs today since 4:45am when I got to work and poured my cup of coffee.

Caffeine IS a "drug". But ... How long ago did we discover this? How many people drank simple teas for centuries, not knowing they were ingesting a "drug"?

What is a "drug" then? Something which has an effect on the body?

Given time and study, I suspect you could find substances in, say, eggs that are "drugs". And tomatoes. And walnuts. Or some general kinds of foods. Just like chocolate contains caffeine, a "drug".

Within that strict a definition, many things could essentially be drugs.

Too much water, or oxygen, is not good within the body. We can hardly abstain from those and live. Our very cells convert the foods we eat into alcohols within our body, even if we never touch a drop.

And I think MamaK made the point. No one is talking about abusing. I am not a "teetotaler". But I have sometimes gone years without a drink, and don't give it a second thought. I don't think I'm a "drug abuser" because I have a glass of wine with my husband on our anniversary. That's silly.

Anyone notice the transliterated greek word used for "pearls" in the NT :)

Greek Lexicon :: G3135 (KJV)

Matt 7:6 No thou may be giving the holy to the dogs, neither ye should be casting the pearls/margaritaV <3135> before the swine,
less they shall be trampling them with their feet and being turned, shall be tearing/rending
