  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When people ask, "Do you have a girl/boyfriend?"

For some reason people ask if I have a wife more than asking if I have a girlfriend.

I'm like.. look at my hand.. no wedding ring!

Yes! The same thing for me. I'm most often asked if I'm married.

It doesn't bother me. If I'm not dating anyone, then I might mention if I met somebody who seems interesting and keep it vague. If I feel like it, that is. Sometimes, a simple yes or no will suffice. For the most part, this sort of thing is just smalltalk. They don't need to hear a detailed story about my love life or lack thereof.

Hmm. Interesting. People ask me if I have kids a lot more than asking me if I'm married or have a boyfriend.

They do ask me if I have a boyfriend though. I don't think it's rude. I just find it frustrating, from time to time, to have to keep updating them with the same "No… not yet" answer.

Depends why someone's asking. Either:
1.) They want something to gossip about (usually girls)
2.) The guy asking wants to know if he can be my boyfriend
3.) The person asking thinks I'm single and wants to rub it in.

The first one can bug me. Depends how much I feel like talking

The second one is nice if and only if I like the guy.

The third one is always a little upsetting. I'm likely to give a curt response even though I try to be gracious all the time.

Do you consider that question to be rude?
I've had this one person who kept asking me many times if I have a boyfriend. That was quite annoying.

Not rude really to me.
I find it funny and laugh at it, very loudly and bordering on insanely, but then just say no.

I don't find it rude. I usually find the followups rude, though.

"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"No."
"You need to stop wearing those clothes, no boy will want to talk to you!"

If a guy doesn't want to talk to me because of how I dress, then I don't want to be with that guy. I want people to stop doing these followup criticisms to me.

I don't find it rude. There are a variety of reasons why someone may want to know and to use it against you is just one possible one.

If the person asking is cute, then I'll be hoping the follow up is asking me out (but I won't be crossing my fingers).
