  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Observed change in kinds.

This is getting more depressing with every post.

Ok. So a bat is the same "kind" as birds and wasps.

but apparantly, humans and chimps aren't

do you really expect to be taken seriously?

Absolutely. I can (have to) justify every criterion used in a classification.
Do you have objection to a kind called warm-blood kind? I guess that clearly separates bat from the wasp. So we have warm-blood flying kind and cold-blood flying kind and no-blood flying kind.

How about that? Smart guy? (you may hit your face one more time)

You don't have a classification. You're making it up on the spot. You're not fooling anyone. It's that bad people are wondering if you are a poe.

Again, please state a definition of the word so that we can use the definition to determine if two random organisms are of the same 'kind'

Unsurprisingly, you're scratching your head.

The definition doesn't help you in differentiating a gallon of water from 20 gallons of water.

Just your rather silly definition doesn't help you in determining whether or not two random organisms are of the same "kind"

Why should it be? "Gallon" is a fixed quantity of fluid. So 20 "gallons" is 20 times more than one gallon.

I don't see anything wrong with that. You must be a nut to see anything wrong with it.

Is this satire? It is isn't it? I'm being pranked. I should have known lol.

I'll let the gasoline stations know that the new classification for a gallon is "a measurement of liquid." My guess is it will soon be more expensive to fill up.

I love parody.

Indeed. You told them, give me a gallon.
Then you may get a gallon of pepsi.

This does not mean the definition of gallon is wrong.

I guess you want to see: 1 gallon = 3.8 liter
But, then you need to define liter.
See the problem?
What you are trying to say is something MORE than a simple definition.
Try to learn some very very basic things about science.

It's incomplete. The definition as specified doesn't pin down what the quantity is.

It's the same with creationist use of the word "kind" as a definition. They never complete the definition. There is absolutely nothing to prevent one from simply saying a "kind" in the bible is a species. Why not?

The last time of education: (if you thank me, then I will continue)

You do not try to classify anything with variables. What's in the "random"?

We certainly can do that.
Except the term "species" contains an implication of common ancestry, which is absolutely not a part in the content of "kind".
If you equated kind with "type", "group", "set", etc. I have no problem with that. The only reason to use the word "kind" is because the Bible uses it.

So because in English, the term is translated "kind," you're going to force us to reclassify all organisms using that word...

The fact that there are millions or billions of man-hours that have been put into researching the classification of organisms is lost upon someone who thinks they can just start classifying organisms off the top of their head. Yeah, obedient dogs are going in this basket, disobedient dogs in this one, goats that look at me funny in this one, etc.

My one curiosity is an honest one... did you graduate high school? Because, and I mean this honestly, I do not understand how in the world someone could graduate high school who does not understand that grass is alive. That goes beyond just a first grade science class level, it literally requires a person be completely and utterly illogical to miss this. It is as if you have been shut off from most of the world, never shown critical thinking skills, and unable to comprehend what others might view as tremendously basic.

I mean this not to harm you, but to help you see the reality of the situation. This is how bad your posts have been. I'm sure you're a lovely person, a wonderful human being, and so I hope you will educate yourself scientifically so that you can understand the marvelous world around you.

Your knowledge is basic.
My is at the top. So what I said sounds strange to you.

Yes, grass is not a life. Otherwise you will be sued of abusing life, or even murder.

Try to learn some very very basic things about science.

a liter is the volume taken up by 1000 cubic centimeters. A centimeter is 1/100 of a meter, and a meter is the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second. If you want to get rid of the time units, you can approximate it as 1,650,763.73 wavelengths of the orange-red emission line in the electromagnetic spectrum of the krypton-86 atom in a vacuum. There, defined to the point of no units.

EDIT: Don't you claim to be a geology professor? How can you teach science without any knowledge of the definitions of the SI units? It's like an English professor asking what a comma is.

I was going to leave this dung pile of a thread (no offense to the OP).

First I want to thank all on the thread. I learned something here.

To see with faith, and not with your eyes. But blind faith can't see past blinded eyes.

To any one I offend, My apologies.

Why do the YECs and the barmies try so fervently to prove man didn't come from a monkey?

It insults them.
They cant stand the idea of being related to a lowly animal. Their pride cant handle it. Being related to an animal threatens the creationist self- serving sense of superiority. This is why baraminology was made. If science has been "highjacked by the secularist", the creationist are trying to take it back.

Science is for the good and progress of the human species. Nobody owns science, nobody owns morality.

What if humans are related to monkeys? How does that change the nature of Universe?.

It would mean that humans are part of the cycles of life on Earth. That humans are involved in the ecological function of the planet. If man is a part of the environment, Mans actions have consequences that affect all levels of life, and impacts the quality of man's own life.

If that statement offends you, its obvious your afraid of losing your faith. That doubt is going to creep into your mind and cause you to question yourself, God, and everything you desperately cling too.

You can deny anything you want, believe anything you wish.
Just because you believe in something or not, does not change how the universe works. Life moves forward, no matter what you think or believe of it.

You can live in fear, or you can live free.
You can't do both.
Give up the whining!!!

Those greenies and darwinist are trying to destroy mankind and God, you say? Awwww! Must be terrible being persecuted for your beliefs.

Oh that's right, being persecuted makes you feel more like a "true" christian.

The monkey doesn't want to be related to you either.

Wrong. I don't care you insult me or not. If you do not know God, you are blind.

I did not read the rest of your post. Elaboration is not needed for a wrong answer.

I can certainly see you are not a teacher. If a student asked you what does "gallon" mean, you DO NOT answer it by the way you did. Only teaching assistant would probably do that to show off his knowledge.

So, here is it in a similar version: A kind is a term used for life-form classification. In other words, you may take it as a blank label.

As I have said before, I don't think these guys would last one week on a science forum.

They would either be bored to death, bore others to death, or get laughed off.

But on Christian sites, they can act like BMOC with their technobabble.

A blank label is neither right or wrong. It's just meaningless. If the word has no fixed meaning, it describes nothing. You might as well say that God created smorblorbs.

Until it's given meaning, life can cross kinds, or not. Kinds can agree with evolution or not. It could describe only green furry things or not.

That's so true.

In the eight years I've been here, Split Rock is one of the very few that has admitted he learned anything from us.

I think either selfinflickted or 46and2 is another one who has admitted such.

I have a lot of respect for them, even when they ridicule.
