  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wait a second. You couldn't even take time to read the silly verse and you were making definitive claims about a "flood".

The chapter speaks of it being covered by water. It turns out to have been a figurative use of language. I have corrected that. But, you were having more fun before I did. Sorry to disappoint your lust for a pound of flesh.

There was no gang attack. I wanted your opinion. You got it terribly wrong and had to go to your pastor, who is not much better than you since he does not know the history of the region, for help and he got it wrong too.
Go back if you wish. Read what happened after I was first asked the question. That is, if you really want to.

One thing that is very clear is that the prophesy, as biggles53 pointed out and I pointed out at the very start of this discussion, is that it says Tyre would never be found again. Specifically:

"19 The Sovereign Lord says: “I will make you as desolate as ruined cities where no one lives. I will cover you with the water of the ocean depths. 20 I will send you down to the world of the dead to join the people who lived in ancient times. I will make you stay in that underground world among eternal ruins, keeping company with the dead. As a result you will never again be inhabited and take your place[c] in the land of the living. 21 I will make you a terrifying example, and that will be the end of you. People may look for you, but you will never be found.” The Sovereign Lord has spoken."
Just might turn out... Might have to wait for the Tribulation for that last one. The Chapter contains sequences of different attacks on Tyre which took place at different times in history.

Here's why...
During the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict, several rocket-launching sites used by Hezbollah to attack Israel were located in rural areas around the city.[24] At least one village near the city was bombed by Israel, as well as several sites within the city, causing civilian deaths, and adding to the food shortage problem inside Tyre.[25] Israeli naval commandos also raided Hezbollah targets within the city.[26]
Demographics

Today, Tyre is a predominantly Shi'a Muslim city with a small but noticeable Christian community. However, the city of Tyre is home for more than 60,000 Palestinian refugees who are mainly Sunni Muslim. The Amal Movement and Hezbollah are the most popular parties, representing all of the Shi'a seats in the city as of the 2009 elections.

Tyre has not been covered by water. It is not "desolate". People live there.
I don't think Tyre as it is today is giving anyone the willies.
It is not over yet. During the Tribulation Muslims will be fiercely attacking Israel, and at that time Israel will not be showing the same kind of restraint it does at present. Israel does have the atomic bomb... and probably more than just that.

Nope, it is clear that is not "figurative". You can't use the figurative claim every time a prophesy failes.

And the second sign it is a failed prophecy, "enough time has not passed yet".

Sorry, if you are going to pull that sort of nonsense then Biblical prophesy is worthless.

Once again, what is the point of a Biblical prophecy? You still have not read the actual prophecy, or if you have you did not understand it. What was this prophesy supposed to do?

Part of it was...

Obviously you do not believe that there is going to be the Tribulation period. Israel will be central. Israel stopped being a nation in 70AD.. The popped back up in 1948. I think God wants Israel to be here to fulfill more prophecy. Can you name any nation that disappeared for nearly 2000 years? And, returned? I can name only one. One that the Bible makes clear must be a nation in order for Christ to return. Coincidence? Or, simply a random, non directed action, that ended up producing miraculous results? ;)

I have no time right now to study that chapter as I should. It would take hours. Its marked on my to do list. I've learned from past experiences not to jump to conclusions. You have not. Call me a fool today if you wish. But, I still plan on doing a thorough study on that chapter if possible. For one thing I have learned.. Hebrew words translated into English has caused problems before. Not saying that will be the case here. Just not the end of the word if I do not have an answer for you today.

While we're at it?

Name two nations that were destroyed, and came back into existence almost two thousand years later? And, nations that must be existing in order for Bible prophesy to come true? I can only think of one. Israel. It is once again a nation today. Has that thought ever entered your mind before?

Even if I believed in the tribulation period that had nothing to do with that prophesy. Your bringing up the tribulation is simply a red herring and nothing more. Your running away from certain aspects of the discussion and bringing up nonsense shows that even you know that you have lost.

It is a failed prophesy.

It does not take that much study. If you have to strain at gnats and swallow camels the prophecy is worthless, and you by your action are trying to make all biblical prophecies worthless. Are you sure that you want to go that route?

While we're at it?

Sorry, I won't even try. That again is simply a red herring that has nothing to do with this discussion. Perhaps if you are honest I will be willing to take up your challenge. Sadly you have been far from honest so far.

No. Since Sodom was a mythical city no one is sure where it is. The fact that a city has been found that was possibly buried by volcanic activity does not make that town "Sodom".
.
Maybe list a few major active volcanoes near Jerusalem.

Bottom line.....contrary to the so called 'prophesy' Tyre still stands...
..
Oh? I thought Genez pointed out that the people there do not seem to be standing? Is he wrong? You have some people of Tyre in a city on the same spot now?

He is just repeating what he found on an anti-Bible webpage. You can link to the homepage by going to the link he gave and cutting off the modifier in the address.
Apparently Subzone was not clear then about the specs.

Why? I don't really care too much about Christian mythology. If you want to prove that nonsense it is up to you.

My point stands. Just because a city may have been buried by something does not mean it was Sodom, you need to do a lot better than that.

Perhaps you could start with real archaeologists.

Why? Because it seems you just suggested some site near there was actually volcano covered.

I don't care about some city uncovered. I do not need to see the sodomite's ashes to know that God did what he said.

Nope, I was very clear. Once again creationist poor reading comprehension strikes.
I just retraces the posts since I asked for the specs...you never gave anything that I noticed. Rather than allude to posting, just pony up.

dad assumes that if you agree with him that you are correct.

Everyone else things if you agree with dad you are incorrect.
I happen to know what prophesy is all about. When I give a big stamp of approval, you can be darn sure they got it right.

It is there. Go back and read it again.

Or you could ask really really nicely.

I would ask you to promise to be honest, but we all know that would do no good.

Once again, if you don't have evidence you have nothing.

All you have is a book of myths that is no different from the holy books of the Muslims, Hindus or other religions. What evidence supports your holy book?

I was questioning one of your claims about some volcano covering a city in the area of Israel. Can we not ask you to support your bizarre claims?
