"Ukraine officials yesterday accused Russia of conducting a large military build-up near the country’s border that raises the threat of an invasion.

Andriy Parubiy, secretary of Ukraine’s national security and defence council, said Russia had deployed more than 80,000 troops, up to 270 tanks and 140 combat planes close to the border, creating the “threat of a full-scale invasion from various directions”.

Mr Parubiy said the Russian troops were as close as two or three hours’ drive from Kiev, the Ukrainian capital."

What now, Obama? Still think we need to reduce the size of our Army significantly?

It's a dangerous situation made worse by Putin's perception that our leadership is weak, and I'm not just talking POTUS. Seeing China back Russia is also troubling. Now is not the time to reduce our Army by tens of thousands of active troops.

Yeah, it's totally different than in 2008 when Putin invaded - and I mean seriously invaded - Northern Georgia. Back when we had a strong President and a strong leadership position... right?

And what are we going to do with those tens of thousands of active troops? Go to war with Russia over Crimea?

The question remains unanswered.

Obama has no leverage but continually says he does. It makes sense he shouldn't give away his cards. I will give him that. But making idle threats to Putin is just crazy. This is turning into Obama's Syria blunder all over again.

Why? Neither country is capable of anything remotely threatening to the US outside of nuclear or economic capabilities.

No Russian ever called me cracker.
A Russian called me cracker once.
Actually, he called me Saltine.

Which was a real bummer because I thought I'd at least be confused with putting on the Ritz.

Funnier is that nobody here assumed that another has to be a Bush supporter.

Then why bring up Bush? Why not bring up, say, Carter and ask why he didn't stop the Soviets from invading Afghanistan?

Why bring up Bush?

I THINK what Jeff is saying is that we need to have those troops should we NEED to go to war at some point not that we declair war right now.

What are you talking about?

No matter what Russian invasions, and there have been quite a few, they don't think about who is or isn't in office.
