How do you know the Bible is the Word of God?
How do you know that God wasn't lying?
How do you know?
The Bible also has two (or more) creation stories. Which one is true? If they are both true, how can we reconcile two contradictory truths?
Evidence suggests that it is not.
1. Because the bible says so.
2. Because lying is a sin, and God is sinless.
3. Because the bible says so.
4. God works in mysterious ways.
5. This "evidence" you speak of was created by Satan worshipers to take innocent minds away from God.
1. Okay, so the bible says it is the word of God. But how do you know you can trust that? Let me guess your answer - "I can trust it because it's the word of God!"
You might be new to the debate boards so let me point out the first problem - this is called circular reasoning. You claim A is true because B is true, and you know B is true because A is true. This is not valid logic. Logic requires at least a premise and at least a conclusion, and the validity of the premise cannot be founded on the assumption that the conclusion is valid.
Now, since you're on a debate section and not a general affirmation and edification section, I can only assume (and maybe wrongly) that you're here to convince people who don't share your belief that they should share your belief. That's usually one of the objects of debating. But I can guarantee you won't win anyone with circular logic. The only ones who will buy into it are - guess what - already people who believe what you believe. They need no convincing.
And, in any case, if you choose to think that circular reasoning is perfectly valid, then any kind of circular reasoning is similarly valid. As in, "The Koran is true because it is the word of Allah, and we know it is the word of Allah because the Koran says so!" If you only accept circular reasoning as valid for your particular argument and not others, then you're getting into special pleading - another logical fallacy that won't convince anyone of anything, except that you don't understand logical fallacies.
2. "Because lying is a sin, and God is sinless."
Well now there's a statement loaded with problems.
Are you saying that God is incapable of lying, or that God is capable of lying but simply does not? Or more broadly - is God incapable of sinning, or is he capable of sinning but simply chooses not to?
Be careful which you choose. Either is fraught with peril.
Next problem - how do you know that God is sinless? Because the word of God says so? How do you know you can trust what God says? Because the word of God says you can? And so on.
The inescapable problem for you is that you apparently cannot provide any means by which you can actually verify that God is always truthful and never lies. You can only ever point to the Bible and say "it says he is sinless, and we can trust that." But how do you know you can?
I suspect it's an endless mass of circular "I believe it because I want to believe what I want to believe."
And, in any case, God does lie. The NT explicitly says that God sends strong delusions to people whom he wants to allow to be condemned to hell, so that they will have no chance of being saved. Causing delusions is deceitful. It's lying.
4. "God works in mysterious ways" - not an explanation. It's merely a cop out.
5. This makes me think you're not serious. That you're exposing yourself as a Poe. It's been a *very* long time since I've seen anyone claim that Satan was responsible for planting evidence throughout the entire planet - not to mention the universe - to cause people to disbelieve the Bible. But to claim that Satan worshippers did it? That's tipping the scales. I don't think you honestly believe that Satan worshippers have been able to plant evidence deep within the earth, at the bottom of the ocean, on the moon and on asteroids and comets and other planets and throughout the galaxy and universe, in order to discredit the Bible.
