  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will someone let me know when the War on Christmas starts this year.

If it's possible for religion to be pulled out of something, then what was religion doing in such a thing in the first place? Could you give some examples?

Retail managers forcing their employees to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" because Merry Christmas has Christian connotations.

The school in New Jersey that decided to ban religious songs for their "winter programs" (couldn't call them Christmas programs anymore either.

How suddenly prayer is just overly offensive to anyone who has to hear it.

I could go on.

These are just things I observe. If my boss ever told me I had to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas I'd probably still say Merry Christmas. Not because I'm a Christian but because that's what I'm used to. My Christianity and my faith is not dependent upon what society thinks about it.

The condescension never ceases. We're all in awe of your maturity.

Awww...it was just a bit of sarcasm. Get over it. It is SILLY to complain about being subjected to such tediousness when one is CHOOSING to be subjected to it!

If you have read the Bible you would know that Jesus's followers practiced Christmas every day by living his example. Doing so only one day out of the day is nothing more than being antichrist.

I can agree with you on the first part, but it's not antichrist to celebrate Christmas.

I referenced practicing Jesus's example, not celebrating a purported birthday.

Then you're making a huge assumption that those who celebrate Christmas are only practicing on one day???

I guess you lost me somewhere. You claimed that it was against the bible to celebrate Christmas but you didn't really elaborate on it. Tulc mentioned setting aside a day, not only doing it for one day. Kinda like with Thanksgiving - it's not like people are ONLY thankful on Thanksgiving.

The majority of Christians I know only go to church one day out of the year and that's on Christmas. As it is, nowhere in the Bible did Jesus say to set aside one day or any time period in which to celebrate his birthday. In fact he never said to pray to him or honor him in any way except to live the exemplary life he lived. Furthermore, the use of green trees is expressly forbidden in the Old Testament - Jeremiah 3:13; 10:2-4; Isaiah 44:14,15, These actions are PAGAN and cannot be used by Christians.

If you must celebrate Jesus purported birthday (which was closer to Autumn, not Winter) please do so in a manner that would not be considered sinful according to Mosaic or Messianic law.

hmmm...sounds like you shouldn't celebrate, but nothing you've said in the above (including those passages taken out of context from the Old Testament) seem like reasons I shouldn't celebrate our Lords birthday.

since I'm not under the Mosaic (or the "Messianic law" whatever that is  ) that would again appear to be something that has nothing to do with me, the Church or any of the Christmas traditions. :)
tulc(is surprised you don't want people to celebrate Jesus, even if for only one day of the year) :sorry:

Technically two days. There's large numbers of Orthodox in Slavic countries and Ethiopia that observe it according to the Julian calendar and thus it will be on Jan. 7th, 2014 this time around.

Hence, it's a fake war.

Happy Holidays!
Not so, but like I said, with the administration crumbling before our eyes this year, the anti-Christmas crowd may be too busy to take the offensive and be offensive int the War

Don't count on it. We have made great strides here in Seattle and will continue our push towards eliminating Christmas this season. This year we hope to enact legislation to allow us to sneak into houses and steal trees! We are coming for you. Mua ha, muahahahaha. <---( My "I'll be back" smiley)

The "anti-Christmas crowd" is not what you think it is. Hence, the war is fake.

Or just pro-Chanukah.

I'm surprised the conservatives haven't manufactured a conspiracy centered around Obama trying to replace Christmas with Kwanzaa.
