• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will someone let me know when the War on Christmas starts this year.

What if paranoid concern is the holiday tradition?

Without paranoid concern being the holiday tradition, there would be no combatants on the FWOC side and we on the reality side would have no one at which to sigh in haughty derision.

Correction. We celebrate the victory

Interesting how this while idea of "war on Christmas" (a right wing politically correct fantasy) actually is a triumph for pagans, not for Christians. As we all know "Christmas" is nothing more than the syncretization of the pagan Saturnalia holiday. And as I have previously noted, the Bible specifically warns the children of Israel - learn not the ways of the heathen. Technically speaking, every time anyone observes "Christmas" they are violating this biblical teaching. What would Jesus do here? If you have read the Bible he would definitely not observe Christmas and would tell you to follow his example and refrain from polluting Christianity with paganism.

How in the world does this thread qualify to be posted in American politics?
 And why would an atheist care about a war on Christmas? They war on Christ and Christians every day of the week. This community is filled with proof of that.

Because the "War on Christmas" is a common seasonal ploy by the Right to convince its followers that they're relevant and doing something useful. As Mach said, "We celebrate the victory."

We're the ones who have to listen to this manufactured nonsense. Lacking a persecution complex, it gets more tedious every year.

Just like the manufacturers of the nonsense don't have to listen to someone saying "Happy Holidays."

So...by dedicating a day to honor the birth of Jesus, celebrate His coming to Earth and dying for us and to also celebrate our family and friends, remembering those who've gone on to be with the Lord and to commemorate His birth be giving gifts to family and friends we're actually violating the Bible?

How in the world does this thread qualify to be posted in American politics?
...because America is where the faux war is being fought? And because some of our friends on the right have used the idea that Christmas is "under attack" for several decades to try and push their own agenda. Here's an article from 2005 that seems to cover it pretty well:
How the secular humanist grinch didn’t steal Christmas - Salon.com

 And why would an atheist care about a war on Christmas?
they seem to be the main scapegoats for the fake war, so why shouldn't they try and set the record straight?

could you post links to say 5 different threads where you feel atheists have declared war on the Christians of this site?

Oh, it's not political on the right. I know a lot of liberal Christians who are also disgusted by some of the things that people do to try to pull religion out of everything, not just Christmas.

No one is forcing you to do anything. Stop reading the threads or the news stories about it if you hate it so much. I, like most rational adults, tend to steer clear of things I find "tedious". Try it sometime!

If it's possible for religion to be pulled out of something, then what was religion doing in such a thing in the first place? Could you give some examples?

If you have read the Bible you would know that Jesus's followers practiced Christmas every day by living his example. Doing so only one day out of the day is nothing more than being antichrist.
