  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A rock so big, it can't be moved.

For those of you who think that this poses some sort of problem for omnipotence let me ask you a question: what is a square circle?

This doesn't contradict the statement describing the contradiction in omnipotence.

Both the statement about the contradiction in omnipotence and between that of the concept of a square and a circle, if applied to the same object, are true.

An infinite is something that is without bounds/limits, if something that have bound/limit than it's not infinite, an infinite not having bounds/limits does not mean that it's not infinite.
The set of real numbers is limited to contain only numbers (and no letters), but it is still infinite.

There isn't such thing as a "god" greater than God Himself.

All of mankind serves either God or dead things(without life).

Reminder:

I don't serve god, or dead things. Come to think of it, I don't serve anyone, except my wife of course, but she deserves it!

Like with many other things, this is irrelevant to whether the contradiction is present.

Let me put it another way, God can't ask the question.

The contradiction is therefore akin to undetectable dark matter.

Unless of course your wife is undead... oh, god, look behind you!

And yet, as before, the contradiction is present as detailed, and talking about an unknown being which may or may not have some amount of characteristics, doesn't make it vanish, even as you may somehow feel like you need to submit to the unknown being, and not speak of anything it doesn't with you talk of, or can't. And in any case, the above is actually another example of these kinds of contradictions.

I can prove you guys are giving God a bad wrap here.

What if the subject is a man?

"Can a man come up with a paradox so big he can't comprehend it?"

Of course he can't! He is the one that came up with it!

Like you talking about square circles as though it's the same as what's being said, the above isn't the same.

The contradiction is still present, and there's no real obstacle to your understanding of this. No immovable obstacle. You apparently feel compelled to talk endlessly about how 'God' forbids us to talk about these things, and how we're trying to the one this moniker refers to a 'bad rap,' is what I think you meant.

But how you feel about all of this irrelevant. The contradiction is still present, and there is a similar but not quite the same concept which is explicitly defined so as to avoid the contradiction. The beginning and end of the problem itself has already been detailed in one or more of my posts, and no amount of personification, the displaying of submission to an idea, or emotional appeals effects the truth of what was written.

An omnipotent God can make a square appear circular, but only within the bounds of the understanding that "this is not reality".

He's also pointing out that your question and the original question of the thread do not involve fundamentally similar characteristics.

The contradiction I wrote of is still present.
