Yes, I bought a real Islamic abaya, and guess why? What I need is what used to be called a house dress - a pretty, appropriate-looking, long and modest yet comfortable dress to wear around the house. There are unrelated people (men) living at our home now, and I don't want to walk around in my home clothes which are (sweat pants, T-shirts) pretty form-fitting.

I guess they don't make house dresses anymore - when I google it, I get bath robes and neglige-looking things.

So, I got me an abaya and was greeted by the seller with Salam Alaikum to which I dutifully responded - Alaikum salam!

eeee... Did you buy paranja also in order to do not bother men completly?

Modest dress is actually part of our religion. We should encourage people who are seeking to be modest, not liken them to practices outside of our religion.

"I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety..." --1 Tim. 2

"By no means are women to be allowed to uncover and exhibit any part of their bodies, lest both fall – the men by being incited to look, and the women by attracting to themselves the eyes of men" – Clement of Alex.

"'Luxurious clothing that cannot conceal the shape of the body is no more a covering. For such clothing, falling close to the body, takes its form more easily. . . As a result, the whole make of the body is visible to spectators, although they cannot see the body itself." --Clement of Alex.
