  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Indeed -- dynamite is only one of quite literally a million useful things on which the writers of scripture didn't know about.

You're cute when you pretend to know what you're talking about while you bloviate ^_^ In that "AV on science" kinda way

meanwhile, you keep praying for the mountain to move -- people engaged in useful endeavors will actually move it.

Last I checked, Everest was still there, and people are still dying from avalanches, in large numbers. In the meantime, you might decide to find some clue as to the subject under discussion, before you attempt to join in. (Just a thought; crazy, I know)

How the topic twisted from the thread title to this, I'll never know

I'm sorry, were you pretending to be superior and profound? Try again.

Last I checked, Everest was still there, and people are still dying from avalanches, in large numbers.
Nobody sees the need to move it. Why should they?

And as a matter of fact, the numbers of people dying in avalanches is far lower than it used to be, thanks in no small part to... you guessed it... dynamite.

You see, park rangers close off an area which is at risk of avalanche, and then delibertely trigger one using either dynamite or (far more common) a specialized piece of artillery.

Imagine how many more deaths we'd have without such clever thinking!

In the meantime, you might decide to find some clue as to the subject under discussion, before you attempt to join in. (Just a thought; crazy, I know)
First one's always the hardest. Perhaps you shouldn't have yammered on about faith being able to move mountains -- it doesn't work.

How the topic twisted from the thread title to this, I'll never know
No, you never will, will you?

I suspect it had something to do with religious folk thinking that belief in their particular myths being relevant enough to somehow alter reality, or exempt themselves from having to deal with it.

How wrong you are.

Actually that's false. Massive deaths in the Himalayas last year; everywhere else as well. So all your precious science ain't really worth doodly squat, while the Bible tells us all about dynamite, and you still don't even know where ^_^

I think you should stick to what you know

Correction: it doesn't work for you. Somehow you always forget to include that part. also the part where you actually know what is under discussion.

Likewise.

The discussion has consisted of the rest of the thread pointing and laughing at you and your supposed ability to move mountains via faith.

Don't mind us, we'll continue to laugh.

Sources, please?

You don't know how to use google? Heck, you could post graphs showing # of deaths from avalanche, from the date avalanche control work started. Last year was a bad year

And I'm certainly not going to learn it from you, am I? ^_^

You were honest with the first 8 words

The discussion has consisted of the rest of the thread pointing and laughing at you and your supposed ability to move mountains via faith.

Don't mind us, we'll continue to laugh.

You're speaking for who now? And laughing at your own strawman, all by yourself?

If you sincerely wanted to know, you wouldn't be bloviating such obscene error so vehemently. Pointing out the error as it arises is the closest you can come (Just like your "big and important" nonsense is perverse)

Well why don't you tell us?

I mean I've asked this question many times before, and you've outright refused to answer the question.

Could you provide the verse, please?

 Long time no see! (Why do I remember you as being RC?)

Anyway there are several verses that use the word dunamis, from which we obviously got dynamite. This word is not used as much, so when and where it is used becomes significant. Here's 4 places, just to get you started:

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 3:12 And when Peter saw [it], he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?

Acts 4:7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all."

Just one more example of your comrades being incapable of discussing the Word of God in any relevant fashion, and would've been much better off sticking to medical students boycotting lectures on ToE, or something

 I was RC, but have exchanged faith for reason.

Dunamis=/=dynamite. You understand that, right? A word's root is not the same as the word. Replace dunamis with dynamite in any of those verses and they fall apart. Please be honest with yourself.

Just one more example of your comrades being incapable of discussing the Word of God in any relevant fashion, and would've been much better off sticking to medical students boycotting lectures on ToE, or something
It appears that my 'comrades' are correct: the bible does not mention dynamite. I truly don't understand why so many christians insist on inserting words and meaning into the bible that simply do not exist there.

Uhh... the word 'dynamite' comes from the Greek dynamis, which has the very generic meaning of 'power'. It was coined by Alfred Nobel in 1867, not derived from the Bible.

Not really. All you did was equivocate, the most boring of semantic fallacies.

Sorry, where we only read "power" in English, God is talking about dynamite. And this was recorded well before 1867. (Before 70, but who's counting?) Those that are too dull to hear, will miss the point as well as be unable to put it in context in this thread.

Explosive power still has bearing on moving mountains, but this being a Spiritual reference, none of you non-Spiritual types will fathom it.

How a thread about medical students boycotting lectures on ToE turns to attempting to discuss what Scripture says about this, I will never know

:D:D:D:D Spiritual power = the Bible predicting dynamite! That is the most "creative" interpretation of the Bible I have ever read! :D:D:D:D

Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean that the correct response is to laugh and point.

I just find it funny that every creationist that contributes to this forum professes that their words are "the truth", yet no two versions of this "truth" are the same. And yes, it is very funny when you hear that "spiritual power" is the same as dynamite.

Laugh all you want but realize you are so far removed from reality as to STILL think I'm a creationist - despite how many times you've been relieved of that notion.

And the fact that you can't fathom spiritual connections is surprising why, exactly? You're really fooling yourself into thinking you're capable of laughing at what's actually been said, rather than your own strawman of it?

Sad, just sad

1st instance: the argument was immature. Which is true. That you choose to twist that into something else, really isn't my problem.

2nd instance: that an individual can't engage in logic, as demonstrated by a specific post, is still on target with the argument itself.

3rd instance: simple facts were presented. Said individual has the chance to avail themselves of said info, or not.

So, your "argument" has been defeated.

How about you quote a single time here where you directed a message to me saying you are not a creationist? But by all means, entertain me, if you are not a creationist, how exactly do you think the earth and humans came to exist?

And the fact that you can't fathom spiritual connections is surprising why, exactly? You're really fooling yourself into thinking you're capable of laughing at what's actually been said, rather than your own strawman of it?

Yes, every time you say that spiritual power in the Bible really means the Bible talking about dynamite I will laugh. There is no straw man there, unlike you I can actually quote it.

Or: upir sdkill at twisting facts knows no bounds. (Not a compliment, btw)

No, you can have it spelled out for you, and you still insist on missing what is said. Why should anyone bother to explain something to you again? The strawmen are non-stop
