I follow Jesus Christ who has promised to return and resurrect all of the dead. This means to return them to life. And He promised to give his followers eternal life.If you think that atheists are so right then why bother with religion at all?
Extolling the correctness of atheism hardly makes you a faithful follower of any religion.I follow Jesus Christ who has promised to return and resurrect all of the dead. This means to return them to life. And He promised to give his followers eternal life.
Just the english dictionary, okay? The dictionary that the translators used.Extolling the correctness of atheism hardly makes you a faithful follower of any religion.
They die until the resurrection, as the bible states. Then you either get eternal life, or not. "Not" is eternal death.Hey Timorthew, you never answered my last question to you a month ago:
So if the soul survives the first death and is never destroyed in people who never die the second death (as per Matt 10:28), why is it that the first death destroys the spirit but not the soul?
Just the english dictionary, okay? The dictionary that the translators used.
The Bible does not state that the soul is destroyed in the first death. Matthew 10:28 clearly contradicts the notion that first death involves the destruction of the soul. They die until the resurrection, as the bible states. Then you either get eternal life, or not. "Not" is eternal death.
So you get your theology from a dictionary? No wonder you're theology is so insightful!Heathen dictionary! For shame! Don't you know athiests use those?! Unclean!
Show me a single dictionary that asserts that atheists are correct about death?Just the english dictionary, okay? The dictionary that the translators used.
I think the point is that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life, don't you?Show me a single dictionary that asserts that atheists are correct about death?
You are correct. That would be the second death. Which is just what I've been saying all along. The Bible does not state that the soul is destroyed in the first death. Matthew 10:28 clearly contradicts the notion that first death involves the destruction of the soul.
Heathen dictionary! For shame! Don't you know athiests use those?! Unclean!

Show me any definition of death that describes the destruction of either the spirit or the soul? Either one will do just fine. Now, look at the definition of death. It never means "To continue to live".
So now you are asserting that Bible translators (besides JW's) agree with atheists about death? Come on, get real. This is the definition of death, and this is what death means when it is used by the translators of the bible.
Not having an atheist's definition of death hardly means that I have my own personal definition. Fewer than 1 in 20 people are atheists, which is by far the largest group that agrees with you, but you act like anyone that doesn't agree with atheists are way out crazies. If you have your own personal definition of death, that is too bad.
I am not sneering at you, I am just pointing out that you are way out on a limb trying to assert the correctness of atheists. Now you are trying to assert that Bible translators agree with atheists about death, which I think that you know very well is completely false. Why are you so emotionally attached to your theology that you can't look at it objectively, and feel OK with making wildly false assertions like this? If I were to start making such obviously false assertions I would stop and check myself, having become aware that my emotions were clearly clouding my judgment. That isn't the definition that the translators were thinking of when they translated thanatos.
You can sneer at me all you want with your witty posts. But unless you use the proper definitions for words, you will not know what the bible says.
Ah yes, I am ridiculous, but you are not sneering at me, I am supposedly sneering at you. Such hypocrisy.
It starts to get ridiculous, doesn't it?
I also drink the same water that atheists drink and breathe the same air.
No, but you so boldly claimed that the dictionary clearly agrees with atheism. As I said, show me a single dictionary that defines death as the annihilation of either the soul or the spirit, and you will have easily won this debate. Is there a "Christian Dictionary"?
Would a bible verse work, or does it have to be from an atheist's dictionary?Show me any definition of death that describes the destruction of either the spirit or the soul? Either one will do just fine.
Unlike Timothew, I am not relying on the dictionary for theological concepts. I know of no dictionary that takes any theological stance on death.Show us one that they are not correct?
