CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You have the same information that I have, but you refuse to see what is happening to our nation. The big government takeover in no way can be healthy for our nation. This whole administration is for big government and the power grabs just keep controlling every aspect of our nation.
Closing down all our resources for oil, gas, coal - what will it be replaced with - giving to green energy as they take our money and pocket it and go bankrupt - what engery source has that given us. They just keep throwing good money after bad without any approval from Congress - this is just Obama's little game he is playing only by his rules.
The controls should be given back to the states and not ruled by Washington. At no time in history has big government worked. The signs are all there, why can't you see them?

I see what's happening. I just don't share your fear that it's going to lead to something terrible.
You have a big nation. A big government would seem to be necessary to run that. I'm not convinced it's a bad thing.
What makes you think that? Specifically, I mean.
Which power grabs? In what way do they control every aspect of your nation?
It's very sensible to move into alternative energy resources, given that fossil fuels a.) won't last forever and b.) are a major pollutant. Alternative energy resources include wind power, solar power, hydroelectricity, electric vehicles, and nuclear power.
Again, could you be specific?
Maybe I just see them but interpret them differently to you?

It does make it very likely to be untrue (some truth, but misrepresented) and certainly political.
Mr. Beck's stock in trade is fear-mongering. Unfortunately, I don't get the Beck channel.

Yes, it is the word big that makes it so bad. The role that government plays now was or is in no way what the Constitution meant for it to be. They have taken away the role of the state government.
One example is AZ - what right does a bunch of politicans have to sit in Washington and make laws for a state overrun with illegal immegration. They are not safe, yet the government sues them for trying to uphold the laws that is good for their state.
Why should a bunch of politicians determine what schools should serve for lunch - different parts of the nation have different ideas of what they should eat - the state should determine it.
Why should a bunch of politicians set rules for cars which is impossible to meet - 56 miles per hour within the next 2 years. Why not let private companies have the competition and they will meet them. Look at the cars we have now mandated by the government - not working.
Why should government determine our insurance - let the private companies work it out - why do we have to stay within our state lines for insurance - what's wrong with just letting the companies present what they have and let the people decide.
Why should the government be allowed to own half of the land in the US so they can control what is done with the land - just look up how much land the government owns, you will be surprised and they are grabbing more.
There is just so many things they are grabbing power over that is not good for our nation - we don't need big government who sits there and writes laws they don't have to live by and don't even give congress or the people of the US time to read before they have to vote. There are so many laws on the books that people do not even know when they are breaking the rules.

Letting private companies do things is often a bad idea. There's no real incentive for companies to make cars more efficient, to stop polluting, or to offer fair prices for essential commodities. This is where the government needs to step in an take charge. Companies are generally only concerned about their bottom line. Whereas that's a great way of pushing down the price of consumer goods and making them available to the masses, it's not the best way of building a sustainable future for the world.
There is a place for both government and private enterprise in a well-balanced nation. The key is in finding the most effective balance.

Immigration is a national matter as much as a state matter. If what's good for the state is bad for the citizens' freedoms (you know, the original intentions of the Constitution), then they have to be challenged.
I dunno. Maybe we want all kids to have the option of healthy meals.
Fuel availability and pollution are federal matters.
Because private companies didn't work it out--millions of hard-working Americans could not even afford basic health care under the old system, and many of the ones who could buy it were denied claims at the whims of the insurance companies.

Now you are painted as an angry, humorless person.
I post one wrong post and someone mentions I don't factcheck - everyone picks up on that and off they go - Sharon's facts are not right. One guy came on that had only had 3 posts declaring how I post false facts. I am painted as posting false e-mails and junk.
It's so easy to run with the crowd without realizing what our words mean. (me included)

It would have been beneficial for the U.S to back the president when he was noting the wisdom of finding ways to switch to alternative energy/green economy as a means of increasing production...
