I'm wondering if the Republican elite want Romney to loose. Maybe they are afraid the economy is going to tank soon so they want Obama to be there when it happens. They know congress will be unable to come to any agreement and we will fall of the fiscal cliff.

I've said this for a while. It is indeed as if the Republican establishment is in fear of controlling both houses and the White House.

Here is the aspect you either don't see or choose to ignore. After three plus years of the Obama administration the US economy is in a shambles, people are suffering because of Obama's policies, there is a economic downturn because of Obama's policies, more people are unemployed because of Obama's policies, more people are on food stamps because of Obama's policies, and Romney isn't responsible for any of it.

But Obama can't run on his record and his supporters can't allow his record to be the issue, so they manufacture issues such as this one.
When an candidate paints a moral picture of half of the people he leads without even being willing to engage them, I see no reason why he should have the right to lead them.

In one sense I suppose Obama does understand their plight. He understands that if he can keep those in the lower income brackets in the lower income brackets he can continue his campaign of class warfare alive and effective, and that is exactly what he is doing. You think for one minute Obama wants to elevate the standard of living for the poor, you seriously need to think again. He has stated himself the goal of students graduating from college should be to achieve middle class status.
This is the most ludicrous argument for Democrats to "maintain the poor". If Democrats (or Republicans for that matter) had the capacity and ideas to make everyone successfully employed, they would MOST CERTAINLY get support from those individuals who USED to be poor.

The fact is neither party has ANY GOOD ideas and continue to be unsuccessful in doing so. And, they will continue to be unsuccessful in doing so because of two things (IMHO): The current political structure and the human condition of greed".

So, if we accept that neither party will EVER REALLY be able to resolve the issue of the working poor (and you have to be REALLY deluded to think that either party has the ideas and capacity to do so), then we have to figure out the best way to support the poor and/or those who are willing (the OVERWHELMING majority) AND ABLE (a significantly smaller portion...) to work themselves out of it.

The central point concerning this charge is liberals love abortion, liberals champion abortion, liberals want abortion unfettered, so it is kind of hypocritical to feign outrage over the fact someone makes money off of cleaning up after all those abortions liberals demanded take place
.I will hope it's a loss of reading comprehension and not a loss of a grip on reality that leads you to ACTUALLY hold that view.

I actually kind of think that the GOP might be gaming the probabilities right now. Since big economic downturns are not necessarily "fixable" by the President alone, but the President gets the "bad press", they must be thinking one of two things:

1. The US Economy is going to improve dramatically soon, so let's get our guy in when it does

2. The US is in it for a longer term so let's not work too hard to get our guy in since he'll just suffer the bad press

In either scenario there's no real assessment that the President per se can do anything for the economy substantively to alter the course of the "fever".

Kind of like a head cold. You can take all sorts of remedies after it starts but in reality it will have to run its course. There is no magic pill cure.

This is not to say that the President is wholly incapable of doing anything, but I'm not sure we really know what has the most impact good or bad. I think that's still so unclear that it explains why FDR just threw programs at the wall to see what stuck. If it didn't work this quarter, try something radically new next quarter etc etc.

It certainly sits on the shoulders of the two parties that have been in power, and anyone who claims that either of the two current parties can "fix" the economy sure haven't been paying attention to what the two parties have been doing for years.

Actions speak louder than words. Their actions have carried us right to where we are today, and we have two presidential candidates that offer nothing new.

It's not only the 2 parties imo. And you're right - no addressing the whole of the mess from either side ...

This puzzles me as a foreigner. We have been led to believe that Americans are extremely hard-working people and here is Romney saying that 47% are basically scrounging off the government and are unwilling to take responsibility for themselves.

Rmoney is just using class warfare because he realizes he does not care about those poor 47%.

""It's worth recalling that a good chunk of the 47 percent who don't pay income taxes are Romney supporters—especially of course seniors (who might well "believe they are entitled to heath care," a position Romney agrees with), as well as many lower-income Americans (including men and women serving in the military) who think conservative policies are better for the country even if they're not getting a tax cut under the Romney plan. So Romney seems to have contempt not just for the Democrats who oppose him, but for tens of millions who intend to vote for him.""
I don't even think Fox and Friends can defend this.

Oh just you wait, didn't you hear them saying the other day that Obama puts the Qur'an first and the constitution second? If they can say that, they can certainly find a way to prove Romney was rigth.

It's a hard sell to a low wage worker who does support themselves that everything would just get better if we lowered taxes mainly for rich people again.

who is this low wage worker that supports himself? Is this with or with out government aid?

It is this fictitious person that the Democrats focus on and ignore the millions of free loaders for this select few.

Those fictious persons would be the 95% of the nations population in which the Democrats lowered taxes, and had to fight their opponets to do it.

Many Americans are hardworking contributors, but the democrat party has created an entitlement class that they keep dependent on big government through tax policy, handouts, and such. They have no intention of lifting anyone out of this pool; they need them to secure their offices knowing that they will rarely vote against the hand that feeds them.

Please do not misunderstand, though. Not all recipients of this free help are part of this entitlement class. Some are out of work and struggling to feed families. Some are war verterans looking to get back on their feet. Others are single parents through no fault of their own and need a temporary hand up.

But there is a segment of those receiving benefits that beleive they are entitled to everything and anything they can get. These are the leeches and ticks on society that need to be cut off and forced to participate in their own upkeep. These are the ones who think their government paid apartment is theirs to leave to thier children. These are the ones who complain that cable for the wide screen TV's should be provided free. THese are the ones who think cell phones are a right and should also be provided. These are the ones who sell their EBT cards for cash. Obama's Aunt Zeituni, Boston's most infamous illegal alien, is the poster-child for this group.
