  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many people have died, and been brought back to life. Who have testified that they have been to heaven, and many also who have been to hell. My grandmother died on the operating table when she had her breast removed, and said she came out of her body, and saw her self on the operating table, and then went through the tunnel towards that GREAT BRIGHT LIGHT,and two angels waved her back into her body.

There has been plenty of scientific study done in that regard. They have been able to consistently create out of body hallucinations in patients by stimulating a part of the brain.

Using a patient that is dying is not a good example. The brain is often in a state of oxygen deprivation, and prone to doing weird things as a result... Out of body hallucinations is one of those things.

Regardless, even if those experiences actually happened as the person remembered.... there's no way to prove it wasn't a hallucination. That's why personal experience can't be considered evidence for anyone other than the person who had the experience. Given the fact we know the brain can, and will produce those images, it's reasonable to consider that is the most likely explanation.

So what did you think. You got to admit,it was an incredible book. So what faith are you seeking??

I remember the book being well written, but having nothing in it that would persuade me now to become a Christian again.

I'm not seeking any faith at the moment. I took a lot of comparison of religion classes in college. Found all of them wanting. The best parts of them need not have an actual god behind them.

Actually "Agnostic" isn't valid as an individual term in a list like you're compiling.

Gnostic Theism
Agnostic Theism
Agnostic Atheism
Gnostic Atheism

Would be correct.

The consequences if there is a GOD don't alarm you??

The consequences of a god that loves atheists and that hates theists with an unending hatred don't alarm you?

I'm alarmed by living in way that isn't true to my best knowledge and judgment of reality. I'm alarmed by living in a cowering and spineless way that is devoid of intellectual or moral integrity.

And there is no way that you can be 100% certain that there isn't one, because you would have to know everything. Is like playing Russian Ru let with your soul.

No, giving in to Pascal's Wager is like playing Russian Roulette with your integrity, where every chamber has a bullet.

Another good line I heard is playing Russian roulette with a semi-automatic :)

Not particularly.... what are you trying to get at?

that it's the wicked that burn churches and promote such things (which is worse). The Bible said it happened then and it happens now.

I'll agree the kids that went on the arson spree were absolutely wrong to do so, no matter what their motivation was. Luckily they were caught and charged

I'm not aware of anyone endorsing the burning of churches though.

Either way, how does this tie into Atheism?

The website labels the song as the “atheist anthem.”

Among the lyrics: “Love how the burn your synagogues, love how they torch your holy books.”

The group is no stranger to strong lyrics. Another of their songs says, (bless do not curse) your God, (bless do not curse) your faith in the end. There’s no religion.”

fox also interviewed them and found out....

Griffith said that particular song would not be performed at the festival, but defended the video of burning churches.

and

...why is there a video of the band performing in front of burning churches on the “Rock Beyond Belief” website?

The full lyrics:

Band said:
Love how they burn your synagogues
Love how they torch your holy books
Filling coffers with your grief
Filling coffins with your misery
Faith holding outright criminals safe
This is just the world we live in
Can you justify the pain
The death of fiction will save us all
[Hook]
Hysteria
(We live We die)
(I wont give up)
In a world worth saving goodbye
(I don’t have anything to fear)
I live, I live hysteria
Wait supporting outright genocide
Hate let us all disseminate
A message to your herd
Our voices will be heard
Now faith is a question you can choose
Faith whether Christian, Muslim, Jew
Still you all distort the truth
The death of fiction will save us all
[Hook x2]
Hysteria
(We live We die)
(I wont give up)
In a world worth saving goodbye
(I don’t have anything to fear)
I live, I live hysteria
Searching for the answers are you asking all the questions
Will the evidence suffice your fear
Human evolution is the only real solution
And the truth you gotta hear
Would you stand and fight
[Hook]
Hysteria
(We live We die)
(I wont give up)
In a world worth saving goodbye
(I don’t have anything to fear)
I live, I live hysteria
Hysteria
(We live We die)
(I wont give up)
In a world worth saving goodbye
(I don’t have anything to fear)
I don’t wanna live,
I don’t wanna live,
I don’t wanna live,
Hysteria
Hysteria

Pretty crap lyrics imo. I have seen better anti-religious lyrics. Nice tune to it though.

Of course.... And that band from what I know doesn't endorse the idea of people burning churches down.

well this is

Among the lyrics:

“Love how they burn your synagogues, love how they torch your holy books.”

Two lines in a song, neither of which explicitly state to go burn churches is not an endorsement.

Looking at the lyrics and the video, it's a message against religion. It's certainly not a call for people to go commit arson.

Wait, wait, wait! Hold on, I can't believe I almost missed the opportunity to use this argument on a Christian!

You need to interpret the words properly... You just have to open your heart and read and understand the words for what they truly are.... A message of love.
