• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sin is not always bad.

Mine? My definition is of no account. It's God's definition/view of sin that matters, amen?

Perhaps you could elaborate on your definition of sin.

No. Jesus is perfect, not us. That is why He died in our stead, on the cross, and through Him, we are given a right standing before God, as we recognize the horror of sin for what it is and develop an an aversion to it.

is it possible for us to confuse sin for what is good?

It is Satan's hope that we do. Confusion and half-truths and blatant lies are his forte'. On the other hand God is not the Author of confusion. His Word in our hearts and minds removes confusion and replaces it with wisdom, discernment, and clarity.

Was Cain's offering good?

Cain's offering was sin because:
1. It was the fruit of his own labor.
2. It was not the blood sacrifice that God required
3. His heart was not right before God

You almost had me there for a second. But I see where you are coming from. And I think in some cases sin can produce good. I think of Joseph saying "You meant it for evil but God meant it for good." If that is all you are saying, then I agree.

But the English word "sin" is an archery term meaning "(with)out"; i.e., "You missed the target." To extend the metaphor, the highest goal is the bullseye. We can miss God's greatest good and still not "miss the target."
But we ought never aim for anything less than His greatest desires for us - His greatest good.

is what you are doing right now good or best?

Is this just an exercise in asking questions?

[Edit] It appears you just learned about the Socratic method in HIgh School and are testing it out, nicht wahr?

Sin means we're not perfect & that we got to have some Christ in our lives or we'll spoil it. Spoiler alert. Sin is not always bad & sin can sometimes be good but sin is never what's best for our lives.

Sin is anything that is not acceptable to God. Which is all unrighteousness. Sin can never be good. Sin is evil. Evil is not good.
Therefore sin is never GOOD.
