Is this sin forgivable?

I have some questions to ask. Can someone be forgiven for saying Gods name in vain? I know this is blasphemy and it is said that people can not be forgiven for blasphemy, but can this sin be forgiven? I thought God forgave everyone for their sins as long as they really are truly sorry, repent of their sins, ask for forgiveness, and accept Jesus into their heart. If they do that then will they really be forgiven and can they still make it to heaven? I have never taken Gods name in vain and I do not say bad words at all. I'm just asking because, of some of the people I know who says it and I want to know what is going to become of them. As long as they truly repent of their sins and ask for forgiveness, then they will be saved right?

Salvation is a one time thing. If they are saved, they need to ask forgiveness for using the Lord's name in vain, yes. But if they are saved they cannot loos it.

However, if people continue to do such things it may be possible they may not be saved.

Blasphemy is not a sinner "taking the Lord's name in vain"! It is an act of ignorance and the voice of a natural sinner. Even a true "born again" believer could take the Lord's name in vain by habit of speech. They need to ask God's forgiveness and begin being closer to God and showing reverance.

He has seen it all. Paul , in 1st Corinthians , mentions sexually immoral, homosexuals, idol worshipers , and he says " this is what some of you were "

Meaning before coming to the truth of Christ they , and all of us, were as guilty as anyone that has ever lived. Well all fall short.

If someone misuses God’s name they can most certainly be forgiven. They need only come to God and repent of it. I once started using a word that was actually taking God's name in vain. Of course, I didn't know what it meant till I looked at a dictionary and I found out what it meant so I stopped saying it as soon as I knew what it meant and I repented of it.

Taking the Lord's name in vain is not blasphemy - The only unforgiveable sin is calling what is of God as being from the devil. For example - a healing or speaking in tongues - some people think these are of the devil - but when God heals or gives the gift of tongues - it is not from the devil and calling it from the devil is blasphemy.

Yes it is forgivable. The bible gives us instances of blasphemy and none of them suggests that taking God's name in vain is blasphemy. The examples I can remember are these:

Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Mat 26:65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

This is where Jesus confirmed that he was indeed the Son of God and also correctly put himself in the class of God, but when a human being like us, claim to be God or God on earth, it is blasphemy. The other instance is:

Mar 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mar 2:6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
Mar 2:7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

Unless you are God, you cannot forgive people of their sins. We can forgive a brother for a sin he committed against you, but not forgive as in remove and blot out sin. Only God can do that and when a human being claims the power to forgive sins, it is blasphemy.

The NT refers a couple of places to eternal sins. I don't think it ever says they can't be forgiven if you repent.

Of course blasphemy in the sense you ask isn't on the list. You're probably speaking of Jesus warning about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. That's not just taking the name of Lord in vain. If you look at the context, Jesus was talking about looking at the Holy Spirit's work (in this case, his work) and rejecting it.

But even then I don't think Jesus is saying that if you repent God will reject you. His teaching about God as forgiving is just too consistent. I'd say rather that it's a warning that things do have consequences, and there are things that can so isolate you from God that you will be incapable of repentance.

But remember, after saying the a rich man will find it nearly impossible to get into heaven, his disciples ask if he really means it. He answers that while it might be impossible for humans, it's still possible for God. So while I'm sure he meant his warning to be taken seriously, I'd say there's always hope that with God's help anyone can find their way back.

Generally though, I'd say people who are afraid they've committed unforgiveable sin haven't. If they had truly committed an eternal sin, they wouldn't be interested in being forgiven.

Or something like "God forbid you should....<whatever words here>". I try to be very careful about using Gods many names at all unless its something obvious like I am praying or talking on this forum.

The real taking of the Lord's name in vain is as someone previously described. You are saying the name of God while your heart is far from him. The pharisees did use vain repetitions but the repetitions were vain mainly because they were doing it to show themselves as holy. Their hearts were far from God.

I don't think of Our Father as someone that is sitting in heaven counting out our transgressions. If you ask, He will forgive.
If you truly wish to love and be loved by Him you ought to have faith in the things that He has said.

God is not a revengeful person. God will forgive you if you are truly very sorry and try not to do it again. God is our creator. He wants all of us in heaven with Him. That is why He made us. To share in His love.

Short answer: Yes. What you are describing in no way comes close to the unforgivable sin.

Yes it is forgivable if you are truly repentant.
However doing something or saying something sinful intentionally thinking "well I'd be forgiven anyway" is disrespectful to God.
