• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"evidence can be found all over the NT as "destroy" and "perish" are used to mean "die" or "kill.""

not annihilation!

from

Annihilation Refuted Part 2
And?

Doesn't this refute YOUR view instead of ours?
If destroy and perish mean kill and die, that is what we are saying. Your claim requires them to mean the opposite of destroy, perish, kill and die.

It means what Jesus meant when He said it. It means what Luke meant when he wrote it. It doesn't mean what dollarsbill wants it to mean.

Check out LLOJ's thread "I am having five brothers".

We can discuss the parable in another place. It has nothing to do with eternal torment.

Just saying Christians believe Luke to be God's word. So tell us where it says Luke 16 is a parable.

I've proven that the bible says the wages of sin is death. The bible says that the penalty is eternal desstruction. The bible says that the wicked will perish and be no more. If you believe something else, shouldn't you have to prove it? So it is up to you to prove that somewhere in Luke 16 it says "The wicked will not perish but will be tortured in hell forever," and then you have to prove that the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man is not a parable.

You haven't proven anything.
The bible says that the penalty is eternal destruction.
You should pay attention to YOUR words.
The bible says that the wicked will perish and be no more.
On earth.
If you believe something else, shouldn't you have to prove it?
Check Rev 14 and 20, FOREVER!!!!!

Luke 16 is perfectly clear. The rich man died, is alive in the fire, no escape. No PARABLE mentioned!

You don't believe that the bible says that the wages of sin is death?
This is a bigger problem than I thought. Read Romans 6:23 where it says (ahem, quote) "the wages of sin is death".

How is QUOTING the Scripture VERBATUM distorting the scripture?

Changing what the scripture says would be distorting it, and that is what you are doing. "Oh, well death here doesn't really mean death it actually means eternal life in hell and don't pay any attention to God who says that eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ."

And you ACCUSE me of distorting the scripture. Please. You aren't getting any traction.
