  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would note that it says many shall awake. It does not say what percentage. Out of a billion people, ten million is still "many". No argument, just food for thought.

2) Scripture teaches that the wicked suffer “eternal punishment”(Mt 25:46), “eternal judgment” (Heb 6:2) and “eternal destruction” (2 Thess 1:9), but this doesn’t mean the wick endure “eternal destruction.” They rather experience “eternal destruction” the same way the elect experience “eternal redemption” (Heb 5:9, 9:12). The elect do not undergo an eternal process of redemption. Their redemption is “eternal” in the sense that once the elect are redeemed, it is forever. So too, the damned do not undergo an eternal process of destruction (is that even a coherent concept?). The wicked are “destroyed forever” (Ps 92:7), but they are not forever being destroyed.
(Credit to Greg Boyd, his webpage is being restructured so I can't link to it.)

look at how many loops greg has to jump through to make his view work. Why not just let the Bible do that for us?

Eternal destruction is of course destruction, and that destruction is eternal. They are destroyed and don't suddenly become undestroyed. Banished is another way to express this. If a person is banish from the kingdom, and it is only within the kingdom that you receieve eternal life, then they are banished to destruction.

what verses are you talking about "being banished?"

no one is saying they are undestroyed, they suffer destruction consciously for eternity.

no. you are all wise in your own eyes. I speak the truth. because I have the truth. the truth is not a perception, the truth is God.

but you blaspheme my name by saying that I am a bad Father. I am a good Father. all that come before me are liars. cast your dirt cloth aside and come to where I am. but the church is one of the biggest problems in todays world. because you are supposed to be the Light, but you all grope in darkness.

i wish it were that you grope in darkness after me, so that you may see the divine darkness that i Am. you are all stuck in flesh and soul. but I am Spirit and make all things pure to the pure in heart.

so come to the feast of the end times.

It all backtracks to he-mans post which you replied to #48.
I just saw the verse and though... hmmm you cannot say someone that is destroyed is banished because banishment typically means sent away instead of executed.

nope, nothing about eternal, the banishment must be modified by other words to actually mean eternal.

uprooting Hmmmnn...lets see now
uprooting extraction (as of a plant and its roots from the ground); complete eradication

uproot pull a plant and its roots out of the ground; extirpate destroy, eradicate; uproot, root something out completely; WEED OUT, destroy, stamp out, root out, wipe out, eliminate, suppress, crush, put down, put an end to, get rid of.

Huh? Greek 101 ξεριζώνω eradicate, uproot, extirpate

These are hidden rocky reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you, shepherds who without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn leaves without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; ἐκριζωθέντα Jude 1:12

But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted. ἐκριζωθήσεται Mt 15:13

You can uproot a tree and replant it elsewhere and it will still live.
Oops, did you forget twice dead, plucked up by the roots; ἐκριζωθέντα Jude 1:12

Hell

Hell is the future place of eternal punishment of the damned including the devil and his fallen angels. There are several words rendered as Hell: Hades - A Greek word. It is the place of the dead, the location of the person between death and resurrection. (See Matt. 11:23; 16:18; Acts 11:27; 1 Cor. 15:55; Rev. 1:18; 6:8). Gehenna - A Greek word. It was the place where dead bodies were dumped and burned (2 Kings 23:13-14). Jesus used the word to designate the place of eternal torment (Matt. 5:22,29,30; Mark 9:43; Luke 12:5). Sheol - A Hebrew word. It is the place of the dead, not necessarily the grave, but the place the dead go to. It is used of both the righteous (Psalm 16:10; 30:3; Isaiah 38:10) and the wicked (Num. 16:33; Job. 24:19; Psalm 9:17). Hell is a place of eternal fire (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 19:20). It was prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41) and will be the abode of the wicked (Rev. 21:8) and the fallen angels (2 Pet. 2:4).

from carm.org

This is interesting. a few posts ago you mentioned that the bible does not support annihilation of the soul, then you present all of these definitions of hell that include "a place of eternal fire" and "the abode of the wicked". If it is not the soul of the wicked that will be abiding there (be it for a minute or forever, take your pick), what 'part' of the wicked WILL be abiding there (i.e. body, spirit, mind, some other energy)? :/

Where is the word banish and destruction in that verse identical to the other verse?

Jude 1:12 These men sunken rocks! are those who share the pleasure of your love-feasts, unrestrained by fear while caring only for themselves; clouds without water, driven away by the winds; trees that cast their fruit, barren, doubly dead, uprooted;
This is the same translastion as the other verse yet there is NO mention of destruction or banish, why are you insisting they mean the same thing if the translators do NOT use the same words?

2nd Thessalonians 1:9 They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, being banished from the presence of the Lord and from His glorious majesty,

I see NOTHING you can tie these two verses together with.
