i will speculate that John knew him when he saw him....perhaps awed when he saw him...maybe it was someone he revered as an important man...someone like david or moses while he was in heaven....whoever he was, John felt the need to bow before him....in repect for the one before him...he was simply corrected....to worship God....anyone could have made that mistake

i know for sure of at least one false elijah is to come....he is the false prophet spoken of in revelation....

does israels awaited messiah need elijah to come before him?.....or does elijah come before YHWH and the day of the lord?...i think the latter....

1) The jews expect that Elijah will come and take charge over the students and rabbi who study the torah but do not agree with eachother in regard to the mant debates and arguments among them.

in this way he will turn the minds of the children of the passed generations to re-think about the errors of their fathers and the great minds of the forefathers will be examined in the light of the nexy generation.

2) the false prophet seems to be mohammed because the muslims set up the abomination of the dome of the rock which the jews see sitting right oiver the most holy place, a cube shaped room inside the old temple where their priest wasupposed to go one a year to speak directly to god.


consider that the jews returned to jerusalem as the capital of israel in 1980AD, exactly daniel's 1290 years after that dome was built in 690AD

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, (583BC) and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, (688-90AD) there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

But jesus must have seen aanother second set of circumstances...

Matthew 24:14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.


15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand

The gospel has been preached and the end seems to have returned the Jews to Jerusalem,... 690 + 1290 = 1980AD.

jesus said john was elijah.....so you believe john was elijah?....are you saying that jesus may not be the promised messiah?....or that the day of the lord is fulfilled?

I believe what Jesus said, namely that John the Baptist fulfilled the prophecies related to Elijah. And of course Jesus is the promised messiah. As for the Day of the Lord being fulfilled, I believe that happens from Age to Age. In one sense the Day of Judgement occurred at Jesus' trial. Read John's Gospel carefully and you will see what I mean.
