  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

LOL - It's about the only wine I can tolerate - I don't really like "normal" wines, even "really good" ones...
Also, more savvy kosher wines are also more pricey.

Eh, it tastes good! So what do you use? I'm a willing convert! LOL

I actually don't even like wine! However, this is popular and I can drink it
(although I don't usually) because it's very sweet. I've probably got a dozen bottles of various wines sitting at the
condo that people have brought for shabbas. I don't even know what they are since I don't like
alcohol. I'll have to see what's there. Usually I just take a bottle from my "cellar" and give it to
someone else for shabbas when I'm at their house. Kind of like the joke of the fruit cake that keeps
getting passed from person to person during "that" holiday, LOL.

I am not a wine person.. for the most part.. but one evening dinning at home with friends over, they bring this wine. Now I really do not like the smell of fermentation.. but I must say.. Low in alcohol, semi-sparkling, but remarkably fruity and fragrant, it has an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity.

don't forget Kosher salt........ almost all families have it..

Many chefs use it because it is a purer salt than table salt but it is improperly named, as it should read, Kashering salt. I use it for cooking as well.

I use it for making Sauerkraut... no iodine to interfere with the fermentation.:thumbsup:

I can't believe people drink Manischewitz!
Must only be non-Jews that drink it, I can't remember last
time I saw in on someones table, if ever, LOL.

Not a good "table" wine, but a great desert wine, or just to sip and enjoy.:)

LOL - It's about the only wine I can tolerate - I don't really like "normal" wines, even "really good" ones...

I've never tried the more "upscale" Kosher table wines; we have such a small Jewish community in my city that the LCBO does not stock anything but Mogen David (many Lutheran, Anglican, and some RC Churches use is for the Eucharist). Next time I get to Toronto, Windsor or Hamilton, I'm going grab a few different ones and try them!

:idea:I think someone should start a thread about Kosher wines, where members could give reviews... likes and dislikes.

I understand that some Gentiles buy kosher because they do believe it
is healthier (if only they knew....LOL).

Kosher shwarma (the only kind that I know) is no less fattening. It's covered in grease and fat. Not healthy at all, but kosher through and through!

Kosher is not about health, even though people have tried to "justify" kosher with their own reasons. G-d gave the reason, to set a people apart as uniquely His.
Kosher is about obedience, not health or food preservation practices, or lack there of.
I often describe keeping kosher when inquired, as a continual fast of obedience.

I Love This Kid....

My Favourite Animal

Our teacher asked what my favourite animal was, and I said, "Fried
chicken."

She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone
else laughed.

My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my
favourite animal.

I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member
of PETA.

He said they love animals very much.

I do, too. Especially chicken, beef and fish. Anyway, my teacher sent me
to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favourite live animal
was.

I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because
you could make them into ....fried chicken.

She sent me back to the principal's office.
He laughed, and told me not to do it again.

I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I
am.

Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, "Colonel Sanders".

Guess where I am now...

Unless it is offered to idols, is there even such thing as unkosher wine, biblically speaking?

Certainly, even more so these days than in the past. Any number of ingredients or manufacturing processes could violate biblical kashrut.
