Hi. I'm not technically a Baptist at the moment, but I have considered going to a Baptist church again. I would like to know, are all Baptists Calvinists? Most seem as if they are, so I'm wondering about that.

Certainly not.

God Bless

Till all are one.

If only it were true. But I can dream.

Nope we are split right down the middle I think. My husband and I are but our pastor of our SBC church is not. We still love our pastor and still agree with the vision and ministry. But we disagree with a few of his sermons lol. We don't let it divide us my husband and I will just talk about the differences in what we believe when we get home in private.

Don't get hung up on labels. It isn't about what theological doctrine a church identifies with, but whether or not it identifies with Christ. Christ was not a Calvinist, or an Arminian, or any other kind of theologian. Christ was and is God, and He is who matters.

Besides, the teachings of Calvin, Arminius and other of their contemporaries and heirs to Christian theology have become so muddled by argument, agenda and outright prevarication that what passes for any of their teachings today is suspect.

No idea really. To me being the child of God is the most important thing. Just because I agree with Calvinists which makes me one doesn't make me fight with others over theology. Most people in my Baptist Church probably are not Calvinists but that's fine with me. :)
I guess it's the way God made me. Or it might be because I'm listening to a Pastor who is a Calvinist and quite honestly I find what he preaches very Biblical. Fundamental and very conservative, but the world we live in now is just a passing mist. It's going to go away as soon as Jesus comes. :D

Blessings!

All true Baptists are Calvinists. ;);)

I think all Baptists are innocent of the horror that Calvin inflicted on Michael Servetus. If not, then they are as guilty as he was of having his hands in this murder. Did Jesus say love each other, love your enemies or did he say do a Calvin on someone? I can not believe that people are so ignorant of the horrors of the Christian history's shameful misaligned campaigns through their theologies against someone else's. Come on, where is the common sense of obeying Jesus over what another person would say for us to do?

Straw man that is based in a lie. Calvin sought mercy for Servetus and tried to get him to renounce his heresy. Calvin actually had nothing to do with the death of Servetus. Don't believe everything that the enemies of any view tell you. Their intent is to sway you to their side.

Why are we listening to murders and those who disobey the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ? Why even consider them? Our primary goal is to obey Jesus and stop all our worrying, doubting and over contemplating or just down right trying to figure God out. We have our commands from the Lord Jesus, aren't they sufficient? Are we listening to him or busy about our own thoughts and theories. You want to really know Jesus then follow him and let your mind figure out the best way to do just that. Harness your mind for actually doing the will of God (following and obeying his son) and you will do well and not be out making enemies and being filled with contempt.

For months I wanted to see what I really believed in and found out our history and read closely the Bible. i understand the teachings of Christ and our own Christian History. I am not mislead or innocent of being anyone's power play. May God be with you all.

Michael Servetus wrote letters to Calvin opposing his theologies. Calvin gave these letters to those who sought to murder him. His hands made it possible to have him killed. The means of death was terrible and Calvin did plead that they wouldn't kill him that way. I am sorry to speak out like this, but I can not believe that we should be listening to someone who had another turned in to be executed.

So then we shouldn't listen to God because He told the Jews to kill every man, woman, child and beast of the Caanaites.

No, not all are. It is debatable in fact who is in the majority, and truthfully Calvinist and Arminian Baptist churches all function in the same manner. Alhtough they differ in how the elect became the elect both believe and preach that only the elect are saved. Our differences are nothing more than a "tempest in a tea pot" in the long run.

God Bless

I would disagree. Our differences are in the God we worship. When you boil it down it is that simple.

All true Baptists are Calvinists. ;);)
now this post is a very deceiving post:

The Baptist Community-a forum for all Baptists to discuss and fellowship.

A few things to know about what Baptists believe:
1. The Believers Baptism (credobaptism) – We believe that baptism should be by immersion and that it is an outward symbol of of an inward change that has already occurred.
2. The Priesthood of the believer - Our High Priest is Jesus Christ, our sole Mediator between man and God. Each believer can go to the throne of God via prayer for grace and mercy.

3. The 66 Books comprising the Scriptures are given by the verbal inspiration of God, and as such are the only and all sufficient, authoritative rule of faith. Given their divine origins, the Scriptures are without error as originally given.

4. The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance (one of two ordinances), done in remembrance of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us at the cross.

5. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. While both free will and deterministic understandings of the gospel are espoused by various Baptists, human works play no part in a person's redemption.
I can believe in free will and be a true Baptist
