In Roman Catholic tradition Simon Magus magically flew into the sky with the help of devils but thankfully St Peter had stronger mojo and made him fall from the sky.

Call 'em saints, and you are ok.
Exactly. I simply call the Saints gods because Christ himself did so. I also call the archetypes of collective unconscious gods because I feel it best represents their nature as autonomous intelligent forces. I could just as well (and do) call them angels and demons.

If you are "partaking of the divine nature"' then you are by extension divine or a god. You are what your nature is. We particpate in the divine nature through knowledge / Gnosis as per 2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Why would the status of "god" be given only to beings that are worshiped? Jesus said "ye are gods" echoing the OT. Yet he never said " I worship you". Worship or lack of worship doesn't change the status of a being.

Sure you don't have to be worshipped to be a god, but you have to be "worthy of Worship".

"Worthy of worship" is pretty subjective. A god is a divine being. A being that manifests the powers, energies, names, and attributes of God. As least that's the way I use the term. Worship isn't a big factor in that regard.

Has nobody ever noticed that YHVH does not order people not to have other gods, but that the utterance quite clearly says "Do not have other gods before me".

That sounds more like "save the last dance for me" than "don't you dare take a single round with anybody else".
Admittedly, proto-Judaism grew increasingly less henotheistic and increasingly more monotheistic over the centuries, and Christianity came into being at a time when other gods had become utterly anathema.
Yet the oft-cited commandment quite clearly allows for the worship of other deities - as long as YHVH gets his due and is placed above them.

I've kind of looked into that theory. As the Bible stands today, I don't think it holds up. The commandment isn't entirely clear when it states "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me," but other passages are quite clear.

Deut 17: 2 “If there is found in your midst, in any of your towns, which the LORD your God is giving you, a man or a woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, by transgressing His covenant, 3 and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the heavenly host, which I have not commanded, 4 and if it is told you and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire thoroughly. Behold, if it is true and the thing certain that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5 then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil deed to your gates, that is, the man or the woman, and you shall stone them to death.

Exodus 23:13 Now concerning everything which I have said to you, be on your guard; and do not mention the name of other gods, nor let them be heard from your mouth.

I think those who believe that Judaism was henotheistic in the beginning, also are painting quite a different picture of the history of Israel than the one the Bible tells us. This would be an Israel that never was enslaved in Egypt, and simply grew to conquer their neighbors in the land of Canaan. It's sort of an alternative history of Judea, based upon rejecting the history of the Bible in favor of scattered reports from the records of surrounding nations, right?

So while it may be an interesting project to do so, it's not really relevant to the religion of Christianity. Tossing the Bible aside, and looking for the "historical Jesus", or alternatives to the creation myth, or any other alternative, is only relevant to the fields of history and science. They do not make any notable changes to the correct worship of God.

The King Abdullah Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, initiated and financed largely by Saudi money, is set to have its seat in Vienna. Plans envision an organization with a governing body composed of 12 representatives from the world's five largest religions.

The governing body is set to be staffed by two Muslims (Sunni and Shiite), three Christians (Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox), a Buddhist, a Hindu and a Jew. The organization will also have a consulting body with 100 representatives from the five world religions plus other faiths as well as academics and members of civil society.
