  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Or Troy, or Van, Cindy161, wanttoknow and many others.

Jus looking at the semper ref thread

I loved debating van - don't remember troy or wanttoknow. Cindy161 was a puppet poster - I don't think she was serious. She took the same quote you did - regarding the kids on the playground - and misapplied repeatedly.

437 The thread lost consciousness 441 The horse died. Since then, I think we've been hearing the sound of a dead horse being beaten? A debate tactic perhaps? Playing possum as it were and going to do a 360 degree Dort dunk!? I hope people can see my humor. I don't mean any offence whatsoever so please accept my apologies and please feel free to PM me also if you don't enjoy christian humor; disclaimer over

I thought the Calvin Johnson thing was funny. No one else got it I suppose. Its a football thing... At least it wasn't directed to anyone specifically.

Anyway - post #437 was directing someone to post #436. The only debate tactic in use was a direct quotation of scripture. I see that as pretty good tactic...

Normally I would think your humor is pretty funny - but since you only reference one person's posts (namely mine) I see it as nothing more than a baiting tactic. ;) Particulalry since I've had no interaction with you at all until now.

The early posts to this thread prove you wrong. Those who posted here were against hyper calvinism for example.
... who aren't Calvinists at all. Which proves my initial point accurate, that Calvinists are largely on good terms with one another.
Also there are thos whom cyg calls inconsistent calvinists.
And we're even on largely good terms with inconsistent calvinists.

Hmmmm....Did you? :p

Seriously, been there, done that. Permanent personality change, from introvert to extrovert. In my case, it was a beneficial change for the better. Others' mileage may vary.....

I know. Its in the 'Funstuff' thread way down on this board.

What's the Catholic's view of Calvin's theories/work?

The Catholics of his time would have cooked him in Rome, if that helps. George Whitefield on the other hand...a Reformed Methodist...what a contradiction huh?

MOD HAT ON

Unfortunately the thread has become too heated and staff has been forced to do a cleanup. Please continue your discussion in a civil tone without making personal insults. Thank you.

Yeah, I read about him. Not as much publicity about him in the church for obvious reasons. I think that many people think Methodism is all John Wesley. Charles Wesley wanted them to stay Anglican. Methodism is more about the "method" of the way you live your life. Striving to be holy. There was a group of very prominent people who were called "Calvinistic Methodists" They took to the open air preaching and gospel revival and pious lifestyle. Nobody could knock George Whitfield for the way he preached and lived. Being Calvinist didn't affect his passion for preaching the gospel. Well, only positively.

In the beginning being Methodist was more about how you lived your life than what your theology was. I'm pretty sure there are still Calvinist Methodist denominations. You can find whatever church you like now. It's one thing I love about being a Christian. If you don't like what this church has to say, just go across the street.

Awesome!!!! God is more concerned with what we 'do' in, through, Jesus Christ, concerning our daily walk, than our theology.

That is what we should be 'understanding'! Loved your comment brother. God Bless. (from a free-will baptist)
