Because as been explained in several places the vows came after he was in and he was not required to take them
That makes no sense though. Are not members of the community supposed to bend with the community standards?

If someone cannot do that then it makes no sense to be a member of that community because it is false advertising.

How many priests are allowed to do what he did & acquire what he acquired?

We'd have people lining around the block to be priest if they were given the opportunities Corapi was given. For whatever stupid reason he was given them.

Corapi obviously thought of his priesthood as a profitable career.

And SOLT & the Church let him.

To me, it's not just Corapi that is guilty here. :sorry:

At the time SOLT was not a order like monks. The way I understand it none had to and it was voluntary

SOLT was not ignorant of his money, they do maintain they were not aware of how much he had and what he was doing with it...such as prostitution. Which they say they have evidence of and I have no reason to think they are not being honest.

My main question has been & continues to be is why Corapi seemed to be exempt from the order's rules of poverty, community, etc.?

I think SOLT itself owes an explaination on that.

At the completion of this year and upon the discernment with those involved, the men receive the habit and make temporary promises of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience for one year. At the end of this year, the men will also discern with Our Lady’s Society if they are called to be priest in the Society or if they are to remain permanent brothers in the Society.

He was a fully ordained priest. Regardless of SOLT. I think there is a domino effect going on here. And I think it's going to highlight more problems that just Corapi. I'm just becoming increasingly disgusted on many points in this mess & others. Black Sheep Dog needed a leash & was not given one. And everyone is shocked?

My thoughts too. When he resigned I saw it as someone who would leave their spouse. Every blog entry he makes is more and more ego.

Our greatest blessings are quite often our greatest curses. I definitely think he has an ego, but that does not make him guilty. SOLT stood to make a lot of money from Fr. Corapi through the changes they made to their structure, and that fact could very well be clouding judgment on both sides. I feel like I am beating a dead horse and no one is noticing, but Bishop Gracida and Father James Flanagan both advised him in his present course of legal action, and that cannot be easily discounted.

For the internet-canon lawyers out there, if SOLT has as much evidence as they claim and now feel justified in releasing details publicly, why could the case not move forward? They originally stated that the investigation had ceased and they "...had not arrived at any conclusion as to the credibility of the allegations under investigation."

Here is a statement from the accuser to someone trying to explain to her why it was simony to sell rosaries blessed by Fr. Corapi:

.... the rosaries to be sent are rosaries given to me over the ten years running Father's office and traveling to his events all over the US and Canada. I have every right to give away free rosaries to someone and have for years. You all might want to step back and stop your attack on me. I will be contacting the FBI and the Church on Monday in this matter. None of you know me or anything about the TRUTH! When you do, you better get out a box of tissues. God Bless!

Instead of accepting correction, she got hostile and threatening. That is interesting.

He was a priest already. Seems somewhat redundant to take vows of poverty.

Bishop Garcia also attacked, in April, his fellow Bishop(s) and religious superiors. He also said that they should not have even told people about the allegations made about Corapi...And claimed individual Bishops are abusive in such investigations of sexual abuse. He has his personal opinions on this that are not Magisterial and are his own legal advice.

So he wants the same veil of secrecy that resulted in the sexual abuse crisis.

that's the one part of the site I could find anything even written on taking vows of poverty regarding SOLT. Its pretty clear Corapi did not take vows of poverty with them, otherwise he would never have been with them in the first place since they already knew of his ministry and public speaking.

That fact that SOLT was with Corapi for years and didn't say anything about his vows of poverty during that time before this happened. Then all of a sudden after his character assassination they make allegations regarding his vows of poverty. If they were so concerned why did they take him on in the first place?

I think once your name is smeared in the mud you have a tendency to be thrown under the bus.

The accuser also physically attacked the radio station producer
