That's why they have people just breaking down their southern border to get into North Korea, and nobody at all ever comes across the southern United States border.

If you do not like the flag as a representation of what this nation stand for, so be it. My family busts our butts so you can have the freedom to like or dislike what ever you want.

With that said. That flag means something to my family, that flag has meant something to thousands of soldiers in the mist of war. That flag bears all the blood and sacrifice that our community has given and will continue to so long as this nation stands. That flag stands for what this country came from and what she will be. That flag shows my son where freedom comes from and what his people have done to preserve it. If you do not like it.. Roger That.. but I do, I love that flag and both my husband and I would die for what she represents any day of the week. We salute her, honor her and respect her.. not the flag it's self... but the country it represents. A flag is just fabric in the wind, but her colors have screamed freedom, hope and a better life across this globe, that is not something to snub your nose at.

My attitude towards people who share the opinion of the OP is rather like my uncle's....he was a WWII vet, 45th Infantry, went from North Africa to Sicily to Italy to France into Germany. When someone asked him about the way in which many folks didn't seem to appreciate his service, his response was, "Well, **** them. I didn't fight to keep them safe from Hitler. I fought to keep ME safe from Hitler."

Yep. I think some of us just make up our own Jesus--one that we do not see in the pages of the Gospels. Certainly not one that taught us to love our enemies and to bless them and do good to them. Evidently, some believe He got vengeance on His enemies and prayed from the cross that God the Father would punish those who crucified Him.

Unfortunately, our patriotism sometimes keeps us from seeing the bad parts of our own history and being willing to admit that we have made mistakes in our history.

Does that make the country better? Is he improving the lot of Americans and others by all his complaining and moaning and whining about how horrible America is, day after day?

I did read the link that you provided and do I understand the point, yes I do.. do I agree with it. No I don't.

Now let me take a guess.. you have never wore a uniform in the name of this nation and put your life on the line for her. You will never understand why us vets and us military families get all huffy puffy, because you probably never loved what she stood for like we do. Until you put your life and family on the line for the things you question, you will never understand our deep rooted patriotism. Again you don't want to have a flag.. that is fine.. but realize what people like us go through so you can snub our flag and with all do respect on the day we celebrate the independence of this nation and all who have died keeping her that way... keep your opinion to yourself. It would be much appreciated ;)

It has been over a year since the passing of Howard Zinn, but let us again this July 4th recall his wise admonitions against the evils of nationalism. The idolatry toward the flag and the murderous empire it represents is especially shocking coming from self-proclaimed Christians in America.

Put away the flags | The Progressive

Unlike nationalism found in other countries American nationalism is based on principles and not allegiance to whoever happens to hold political power at the moment. To this Christian it is based on the Christian principles identified in the Declaration of Independence and reaffirmed in the Constitution (limited government, inalieanble rights that come from God ... such as the rights to life and property, freedom of conscience including freedom of religion, equal and impartial justice etc.).

The murderous empire as you call it has done more to lift men out of the poverty and tyranny that have been the norm for mankind than any other nation in history. It has given men a glimpse at what is possible when men are allowed to enjoy the liberty that God would bless us with and sadly America is also showing what happens when men turn away from God and embrace the wisdom of men instead.
