  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could the Bible have flaws?

Is the Bible the word of God?
Yes

Was in written by God?
No

Was it written by Man?
Yes

Is God 100% goodness?
Yes

Is man 100% goodness?
No

Did man write the Bible?
Yes

Conclusion: The Bible cannot be completely the word of God as it was written by men. As we all know, we all sin. Therefore there is the possibility that because men wrote the bible, they could have corrupted some of the information they were told put in, for whatever reasons.

I'm not saying it happened, but there is the possibility that it could of happened and that know one would ever know.

I see a development of sorts in the Bible. The revelation of the Kingdom of Heaven, with its golden rule of love for all, was slowly unfolded through the lives of those who walked with God. Like light through a dirty glass.

Only with the ministry of Christ was the full message of God's love and grace fully revealed.

But there is an interesting correlation to this pattern in the lives of individual believers. At first Christians are far from perfect. They undergo many trials like the Israelites, and the light of Christ shines through them darkly. But given enough time and patient endurance, the Christian conforms more and more to the likeness of their Lord.

The bible has some errors yes, typos, and the farther you go back the more likely there are to be some copying errors.

However the closer you get to our time the more likely that the Word has been preserved. Also finds such as the dead sea scrolls showed there had been no change in books like Isaiah over the centuries, so the other books have probably not changed either. The new testiment as an example has around 5000 original copies (from memory). However the bible was a book about power, the miraculous power of God. Some of the prophets, although powerful men performed no miracle, just recieved messages from God and wrote them down, and spoke them. God has through out the last few years spoken to me in ways that only he could, i.e. predicted future events, healed the sick, as the bible says we can do, and he has consistently used the word of God to guide all my miraculous experiences. With out the bible none of these things would have happened in my life, beacuse I acted according to the words and commands of Jesus. See Know God Personally for details of these Miracles.

Then reason God did not write the bible himself is so that we would not worship it as a god it self. Some of us have a hard time not being drawn to worship idols or "artifacts." To have a Hand written document like the bible would inspire object worship. Like with Moses and the stone tablets.

So this does mean that their maybe errors in the scriptures (where they are I don't know) but either way the scriptures have been endorsed by God. This means we are responsible for ALL of them. That means whether you believe the bible to be flawed or not it is by the bible and what it tells you, that you will be judged.

God being a righteous judge has the responsibility to simply forgive us for the "incorrect portions of the bible" we are faithfully following or has the responsibility to change what is written. (like he did with the dead sea scrolls.)

With every translation, things are added and with held, and the word becomes diluted.
Translating any document time after time, from age to age will result in a flawed document.
Whoever is translating will have some ulterior motives to change that document..be it political, disagreeing with a certain theology or just doing plain, sloppy work.

God did not send us a “book” down from heaven.

If the Bible was absolutely “perfect” than we would all have irrefutable scientific evidence for the existence of the Christian God. The “book” as our “proof” would reach the esteem of being an object to worship, kept only in the original language, and be the source for everyone to become Christian. People would put their trust (faith?) in a book (you might look at how the Muslim’s treat the Quran.)

In God’s wisdom; God would not allow the “Bible” to become what it was not intended to be.

You bring up some good points and ask good questions.

“Proof” or at least strong “evidence” for a god is what the agnostic, atheist, and/or skeptics is asking for and think they need to at least “believe”. They do not really want to “believe” (trust/ have faith in), but have “knowledge” of God existence. The problem is “faith in a benevolent Creator” is needed to help the individual with his earthly objective and really cannot be completed without it.

What you have to always keep in mind is the objectives:

Man’s objective seems to be to obtain and grow this Godly type Love to fulfill the mission (statement) of Love God and secondly others with all our heart, soul, mind, and energy.

This Godly type Love is defined by Jesus’ words and deeds (you can also use 1 Cor 13 and 1 John 4).

Since God is “Love” and part of the definition of Godly type Love is unselfishness God is totally unselfish? If God is totally unselfish, He will do and allow all He can to help those that are just willing to accept His help fulfill their objective (Love). That “all” includes: Christ to go to the cross, satan to roam the earth, tragedies of all kind, hell, evil, and even sin.

God is not trying to trying to get us to do something, but is trying to give us the most powerful force in all universes if we will just accept the gift as it was given (charity). Having Godly Love is having the most powerful force in all universes.

Will we know people do not like to accept charity especially from a giver that paid a huge price? People will try to earn the gift, pay back the gift, be more deserving of the gift than the next person or just say they got the gift without having to accept it. The easiest way to accept the gift is through accepting God’s forgiveness (this is after you have sinned) since forgiveness is charity, grace, mercy Love. AND Jesus has taught us “…he that is forgiven much will Love much…”

Faith in just the existence of a Creator takes very little trust and is something we really would want to do at least to relief this burden we carry from hurting others (sin) in our past. That turning to trust in a benevolent Creator is a humbling action (something the lowliest person on earth can do) and that humility is enough to allow us to accept God’s Charity. The easiest way (God set this up) is to accept God’s Charity in the form of accepting God’s forgiveness (Love/Charity/Grace/Mercy).

All translations are necessarily flawed. Our understanding of these primitive languages is sometimes flawed. Sometimes flaws are created by those who copied scripture through history.

Reasonable Christians hold the view that the original manuscripts are flawless, not that the English Bible in your hand is flawless.

The Bible was written by inspired people whom God would communicate to supernaturally (e.g. the gift of prophecy and tongues,, not to be confused with the nonsense that goes on today in Pentecostal churches.) People who study the Bible, and people with PhDs, try to determine to the best of their ability what was in the original manuscripts. We know our copies are highly reliable, so reliable that it's not justifiable to suspect an error just because you don't like what the Bible says, or because it appears to contradict something.

God used imperfect man inspired by the holy spirit without errors. The only places where it may seem like there are errors but arn't is in the gospel accounts.

This explains it-
