  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is laziness a sin? How lazy is lazy?

Not exactly. For example, fat people got tired easily when doing some jobs. They may seem lazy than thinner ones but that is not their fault. They could also be blamed for their bad eating habits or lack of exercise. But
since they are already fat, what can they do?

Another example, one works 10 hours a day 6 days a week to earn a living for his family. The other works 8 hours a day and for 5 days a week. The second people spend more time watching TV, play games than the first people. Both of them do their jobs. But can we say the second person is lazy?

Everyone is busy, there are endless jobs to do for everyone. Is it sinful to entertain ourselves or just relax.

"Lazy" is a relative term. It's hard to define, but it's easy to recognize when it's staring us in the face.

I was talking about evaluating your own behavior, not judging someone else's.

It all depends - are you resting or avoiding work you know you should be doing?

The problem with trying to define laziness is that it can rely too much on one person's opinion. A workoholic who rushes around too much could call someone who takes their time but does their job properly lazy.

Tired is not lazy, Tired is your body, telling you to rest and to replenish, food, water etc.

If the curse is lifted then Being lazy is not a sin. Forget about the 7 deadly sins, They

were made up to scare people.

But on the other hand with common sense, what to eat, then work.

If I felt tired and stopped working, is it ok?
If you are talking about working at a paid job, then you probably know your answer. You have a legal contract of pay for hours worked. If you are not working, then your employer has no reason to pay you.

If you are tired, maybe you should be looking at a less strenous job -- or at least one using different muscles or position.

Check your state laws for legal breaks. Most employers pretend these don't exist, but are supposed to build those into your work schedule. If you are doing outdoor work that requires intermittent travel, then the ride between sites is probably considered your break.

You may appreciate this quote by M. Scott Peck, psychologist, writer, Christian.

"As I have defined it, love is the antithesis of laziness. Ordinary laziness is a passive failure to love. Some ordinarily lazy people may not lift a finger to extend themselves unless they are compelled to do so. Their being is a manifestation of nonlove but still they are not evil."
