Yep, love David Rubin, had him here this past December, iirc. Also had Avi Lipkin several times. Both appeared at a local AOG church and our Orthodox Shul way north of here. And what did our Masorti Shul and the MJ/Gs do? Nada, nothing, 0, cero, ZIP!! As usual. At least they're dependable.

We are hoping(still in the arrangement stage) to have another Rabbi/Scholar chap, from J'lem, here tentatively in June 2011. His specialty, among others, are things pertaining to the Holy Temple. No date or location for sure yet. He's been in the US many times, it's just finally we hope to lure him out here. These 600 mile round trips in one day are getting to be a bit much for me, getting old. In the Israeli Jewish world I would say he is in upper-middle management, as a manner of speaking, if that's cryptic enough. A more humble man I do not know. My wife and I have spent several hours with him, he just sharing(flowing?) Torah and suddenly this old cynical lawyer(me) is in tears realizing how little I know and how good it is to receive the Word from a man who takes the time to explain things in detail even to children, as we are, without using a grinder on our heads. He serves up a veritable feast.

My Christian friends always go around saying "Jesus bless you," to find out if someone is Christian or not, to talk to them, and I don't, I just smile.
They ask me how I can tell if a person is "saved" or not, if someone is one of my "family" at the meat department or check out line.
I tell them that's easy - if they pass by the pork or shrimp, they are probably Jewish, Messianic or vegetarian, and I can just pop right up and start talking. In the check out line, those that are not Jewish or Messianic are the ones checking their watches, bouncing from one foot to the other, heaving exagerated sighs. The Jews and Messianics don't seem to be in such a hurry, we count it as a blessing that we have legs to stand in line, we have markets full of interesting people, and it's all part of the blessing of another day to live. They don't usually ask me again.....

Messianic woman was going to get fire and brimstone on a guy?I guess you have your good share of bad apples in MJ denominations then:D

Yeah, there's times I could just lose my cookies and my skin crawls when I see some of the stunts pulled. But, upon reflection, I know she/they have a good intent. At this hour I think she has been pacified and has a bit better understanding of the purpose of Yishai's visit. Sincerely I hope so, no need for hurting folks, but it goes both ways. Perhaps the episode will bear some good fruit down the road.

I've got to get my "heart nap" in for about an hour and then drive north about 100 miles to the seminar.

Timely topic for my wife and I. We are quite Zionist.

At this very moment my wife is up in town waiting to pick up an Israeli chap named Yishai, who is a sabra, IDF, attorney and Orthodox rabbi. Also he has a lot to do with INN(Arutz Sheva) radio, like he's the director, as I understand it.

We had arranged for a nice lady(we figured an MG) to pick up him and his family, the nice lady has a very nice large car, larger than our TDI Jetta. Well, she called early this morning and proceeded to tell the wife and I how she was going to give him and his wife her knock-out "witness" once they were safely "trapped" in her car(her choice of the word "trapped"). She said; "they'll have to listen". Oh joy, oh rupture!!

We rented a large car, the wife is up at the airport now, oh, and we relieved the nice lady from her chauffer duties to refreshments at the seminar at our dati Orthodox Shul in a town further north of here.

The chap from Israel, being a rabbi, has heard the gospel before, he is an attorney, as am I but mostly I'm trying to retire, but I can tell you that he could debate the bark off a tree at 1000 yards, no effort for him at all, I can personally attest for that. His purpose here is to garner support for the cause of Yisrael, and to try to make friends for Yisrael amongst both Jews and Gentiles.

We tried to council with her to be appropriate to the occasion, but no she insisted.

Well, what can ya do. Sigh.

I would have posted a link to the schedule for this week-end's events but I'm not sure it's allowed and we have security problems here due to certain of the "religion of peace" rag-head group(s). We will have police at the events.

Am Yisrael Chai!!!
our Rabbi would have done the same AND he would have told her sorry you may not interact with our Rabbinic Jewish visitors when they are here. Good for you!!!

My father once told me that for every spiritual blessing, there is a spiritual counterfeit that often appears parallel. From the days of the rampant selling of indulgences in the Middle Ages to such examples as stated above, there are always forces pulling in both directions. How many traditional Christians have "jumped on the Messianic bandwagon" to discover that the roots (and branches!) of Christianity are far more powerful than they ever imagined? Yes, such stories are frustrating, even infuriating! Such things are usually a sign that something else, somewhere, is going right. You've certainly got this Anglican thinking about her Jewish roots!
What you say is true. Everything requires a spirit of discernment. There is no perfect congregation because there is no perfect man. I just wrote an article about a certain doctrine, for which one persons reply was that he did not read what I wrote, but was certain I was wrong. Others also agreed without reading what I wrote that I was wrong. Such are those who are in positions to judge.

Well our guest Yishai has gifted us with very insightful perceptions of things in Yisrael, never hear it on our news of course. The turn out at our young and small dati(MO) Shul was about 45-55 folks, depending on which day(Erev Shabbat, and today Shabbat) it was. It was nice that most were not self-hating Jews. No 2 staters we. The Egypt thing may well prove to be quite difficult for The Land, and for us here too. None of us are prophets(least I'm not), but please ask for the Peace of Yerushalayim (Miz. 122).

We ended Shabbat with Havdalah and then finally came home. We're pooped.

The "nice lady", aforementioned actually is nice. I believe she learned a great deal about traditional Jews and sensitivities due to history and theology there, if that's a fair way to put it. She has a good heart and genuinely wishes to be a ger tzaddik. She was quite touched by the community(sense of family) there and they had the grace and the wisdom to include her warmly, at times she teared up. I was touched myself by all this. Was able to share with her my own experiences years ago as both a 1/2 Jew and 1/2 Lakota when confronted with what I call "attack gospel" and how the result was not no but Halifax NO. ;) Years down the road He met me in a huge mess of my own making. Just tried to keep down that wall of separation from both sides.

Yep, Tishri, we hope R. Richman will be here in June(+ or -). It is tentative, don't want to eat too much crow pie if it doesn't pan out. If it's a go, later when we find out, will try to post info on it. IIRC it was 2007 in Roswell that a "hot ticket" in the audience tried to play "stump the rabbi" by asking some 'guilt trip' type question of him(the rabbi). By the time the Rabbi got done(and he, the rabbi, did this in a very loving teaching mode, seriously, he was most compassionate) the young man had been taught the importance and meaning of the blood covenant to a Christian. Rabbi never said he believed it, in the Christian sense, he just explained it. Absolutely amazed I was. Sometimes, to me, it seems a lot of folks think Jesus is just some new sheriff in town and you ought to hop in his squad car and ride up and down Main Street lookin' for bad dudes. And the idea that his name is Y'shua gives them the fits, as we all well know. It happens that Rabbi Richman can quote and explain the B'rit like a machine gun, in his soft spoken way. Do you ever catch his parashot on universaltorah.com?
The Universal Torah Network - Teaching and Relating Torah Principles, Views and Understanding To The World

I guess this will work, first time I've ever done it.

It's late, I'm pooped,

Shalom

She didn't respond back because she's busy reading and digesting all of the posts! (and cooking and cleaning the house, and grading student papers, and teaching classes....)

Thanks for the lovely comments and insights!

Hi Rana

Welcome to CF. Didn't know you had Jewish roots!

Hi Heber,
please forgive the newbie mistake. I was referring to the historical spiritual roots of Christianity, which is my faith. I know very little about my family ancestry...I certainly could have some such blood roots somwhere!

He was right! I've been saying this on here for many years. HaSatan cannot, of himself, originate anything. All he does is to copy that which G_d has himself created so, for everything HaSatan does, there is an original, perfect, wonderful and amazing original that is of G_d. Our job is to spot the real ones, not the false ones. In the Bank of England the staff in the Forgeries Dept. spend their time studying original notes and coins so that, when a good forgery appears, it will stand out like the proverbial sore thumb. They do NOT sit there dwelling on the forgeries.

I think that is absolutely a wonderful insight. If our focus is where it should be, it makes it much easier to spot things that aren't of Him.
