  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

These my humble thoughts...

God's true goal is to establish a world of righteousness. A Utopian reign of Christ. Now in seeking ye first this awesome kingdom of Heaven, obviously the most important thing is being someone who can be counted on not to cause any of the problems which make this world corrupt. We need to bring our hearts into alignment with the kingdom.

I am of the mind that true salvation does not occur until you are willing to go 100% of the way for Jesus. It is also at this full level of understanding that falling away would have to be deliberate, such as to avoid persecution of death. Jesus will forgive sins, but the goal is to go from needing him on the cross, to being raised a new creature. It is indeed possible to be taught Christ and not have a genuine born again experience. In other words, once you know him, you know him.

It's not just about living a good life and making it somewhere in this world. Actually, salvation is for both the good son and the prodigal son, but the prodigal son is crushed by the weight of his many sins. What will he offer in exchange for forgiveness? He does not ask for status or heavenly rewards, but to serve. His conviction drives him that much harder. The father does not delight in punishment, but celebrates his conclusive state.

This message describes it well:
True Salvation Through Jesus Christ - John MacArthur | Refocusing our Eyes

Well, the old theologians used to say that in the human heart, there’s a God-shaped vacuum that only God can satisfy. The book of Proverbs says if you pursue riches, riches will never satisfy. The heart of man is never ever satisfied in those things. However, being satisfied with God, then you can enjoy all the things that God gives you, because you see them as coming from His good hand. If you’re just pursuing riches, pursuing riches…you know, the old Rockefeller story, “You have so much,” somebody said to him, “how much do you want?” And he said, “Just a little bit more.” If that’s what you live for then you’re never going to be satisfied, and ultimately, that is not going to satisfy your heart. God alone, Christ alone, satisfies the heart and then everything you have, even the smallest things, becomes a cause for joy and thanksgiving.

Jesus said, “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself.” In other words, abandon all your own ambition, all your own will, all your own direction, your own choices, and totally and fully submit your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is to say it is the end of me and I commit my life to follow Christ, whatever the cost, even if it’s a cross, and to obey Him. And that was not what the rich young ruler was willing to do. He is a classic illustration of someone who will not deny himself. He wanted to hold on to his own will, he wanted to hold on to his own pride, he wanted to hold on to his own money, he wanted to hold onto his own ambition, his own sovereignty, if you will, in his own life.

The competing issues are these, very simple: The gospel says: give your life to Christ and He rules. And if you’re not willing to do that its because you want to keep the rule of your own life. The rich young man wanted his own life for himself. He wanted to control his own life. He had his choice sins. He had his choice religion and he wanted to hang onto control. It’s that simple. Coming to Christ means you give up the control of your life and you yield it to Christ. That’s what kept him from salvation. He was unwilling to do that.

People are happy for you to believe in God. They think its great that you believe in God. People applaud the idea of believing in God. As long as that God is not the God of the Bible. Because once you affirm the God of the Bible, then you get the God of the Bible. Then you get the Law of the God of the Bible. You get the Commandments of the God of the Bible. You get the morality of the God of the Bible. You get the holiness of the God of the Bible…the justice and righteousness of the God of the Bible and you get the punishment of the God of the Bible. So, you have to face your own sinfulness, you have to face the reality that you have violated the law of God. That you’re headed toward judgment and eternal hell and in order to be saved from that you have to turn from your sin and embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.

Bottom line is men love their sin. People love their sin. The Bible says men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. Now there are all kinds of gods that aren’t going to impinge on that, all kinds of religions, spiritual ideas, but not the God of the Bible. So, to say that you believe in the God of Scripture is then to say that you believe in the Law of the God of Scripture and the judgment of the God of Scripture as well as the salvation of the God of Scripture. It’s that narrowness that offends the sinner because the sinner wants to hold on to his sin.

The rejection of Christianity is not intellectual. It’s not some intellectual problem, “I just can’t get there intellectually.” There are endless reasons, logical reasons, to believe in the God of the Scripture and the Scripture that God has written. It’s moral. It’s moral. They love the darkness because their deeds are evil, not because they can’t process it intellectually, but because their deeds are evil and they cherish those.

We always say that people aren’t truly saved until they are truly aware that they are lost. See, that’s why you can’t just go in and say, “ Hey let me tell you about this wonderful message. Jesus loves you. God loves you just the way you are. He wants to bless you; bump you up a few notches on the scale of success. Help you hit home runs. Straighten out your slice in golf. Make you feel good about yourself. Give you “Your best world…your fulfillment…your purpose.” That’s not the gospel.

The gospel is: He wants to deliver you from your sins, which are going to condemn you to eternal hell. And until a person understands the reality of their lostness, and fully comes to grips with that, that they have sinned against God, violated God’s Law, that they cannot remedy that, that they are headed for hell, that they will never have any purpose in this life, any meaning in this life, and certainly in the life to come, apart from salvation through Jesus Christ. They don’t reach a level of desperation, which drives them to a true salvation.

Crosssword,

true salvation comes like the apostles received it

Acts 2:4 (King James Version)

4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:38 (King James Version)

38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

and also
Matthew 28:19 (King James Version)

19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

thats how I got salvation just like the bible says its all the same

The righteousness required by God of us is a righteousness which we cannot earn, nor supplement. It is God's own righteousness, and only by having him give that righteousness to us can we have confidence of salvation:

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption
that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished - he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:19-26,NIV)

Only by God's giving us the righteousness which he requires of us are we confident of salvation and eternal life with him. We can no more link our own attempts at being righteous with his true righteousness than we can drive on the highway in two different vehicles at the same time. We either accept his righteousness or attempt to use our own, but we can't do both.

As for what we do on behalf of the furtherance of the kingdom of God, and what our proper attitude is to be toward that work, Jesus Christ himself gave us the answer to that:

"Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' " (The Gospel of St. Luke 17:7-10,NIV)

We are to be childlike in our faith, but not childish in our attitude toward our own work. We do what we're supposed to do for no other reason than that we are supposed to do that work. We refrain from doing what we are not supposed to do for no other reason than that we are not supposed to do it. But there it ends. To perform tasks out of a desire for reward is akin to a person's driving on the highway while expecting a cop to 'pull him over' in order to give him money for driving safely.

Good point. God is rich to give us to salvation, eternal life, and rewards in heaven. It's like if someone were to give you a trillion dollars. There is no way we can ever reciprocate on our own terms, all we can do is follow the terms of the offer.

If thou wilt be perfect - The word "perfect" means complete in all its parts, finished, having no part wanting.

Thus a watch is perfect or complete when it has all its proper wheels, and hands, and casements in order. Job was said to be perfect (see the notes at Job 1:1), not that he was sinless, for he is afterward reproved by God himself Job 38; 39; Job 40:4; but because his piety was properly proportioned, or had a completeness of parts. He was a pious father, a pious magistrate, a pious neighbor, a pious citizen. His religion was not confined to one thing, but it extended to all. Perfect means, sometimes, the filling up, or the carrying out, or the expression of a principle of action. Thus, 1 John 2:5; "Whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected." That is, the keeping of the commandments of God is the proper expression, carrying out, or completion of the love of God. This is its meaning here. If thou wilt be perfect, complete, finished - if thou writ show the proper expression of this keeping of the commandments, go, etc. Make the obedience complete. Mark says Mark 10:21, Jesus, beholding him, loved him. He was pleased with his amiableness, his correct character, his frankness, his ingenuousness. Jesus, as a man, was capable of all the emotions of most tender friendship. As a man, we may suppose that his disposition was tender and affectionate, mild and calm. Hence, he loved with special affection the disciple John, eminently endowed with these qualities; and hence he was pleased with the same traits in this young man. Still, with all this amiableness, there is reason to think he was not a Christian, and that the love of mere amiable qualities was all the affection that was ever bestowed on him by the Saviour.

"One thing," adds Mark, "thou lackest." There is one thing missing. You are not complete. This done, you would show that your obedience lacked no essential part, but was complete, finished, proportionate, perfect.

Go and sell that thou hast ... - The young man declared that he had kept the law. That law required, among other things, that he should love his neighbor as himself. It required, also, that he should love the Lord his God supremely; that is, more than all other objects. If he had that true love to God and man - if he loved his Maker and fellow-creatures more than he did his property, he would be willing to give up his wealth to the service of God and of man. Jesus commanded him to do this, therefore, to test his character, and to show him that he had not kept the law as he pretended, and thus to show him that he needed a better righteousness than his own.
As for the three different true salvations, seek the one that comes with the baptism of the holy spirit and speaking in tongues. It is truly the most sure, and blessed are those who receive it. I however, though seeking it, will continue to pray for the souls of mankind and the greatness of God's love and his plan for us.

"I will have mercy upon whom I will have mercy." God has the ultimate say concerning every heart and soul.

It is our faith that heals us, and while salvation is impossible for man, nothing is impossible for God. How miraculous that God still has love for us sinners.

Now I did not think of myself, but was reckless enough to fall into the belief that God has a means for saving everyone, expounding on his love and his power. However fear of the lord and of hell are far more useful then meaningless mercy. God's love may be unconditional, but sin separates us from it.

Or what of babies and children who die in their innocence, but are not Christian? Do they deserve eternal torment? How infinitely powerful, and righteous, and loving is the Lord, and what a mockery of his infinite power, justice, and love, should such a thing occur. This is why I will not judge, nor become elitist. I refuse to believe that a loving God would condemn them to hell, nor do I think they deserve a free ticket to heaven. The best approach to this situation is probably to give them new flesh.

The Bible is clear about the way to salvation. You must hear the Gospel of Jesus, believe it, and be baptized in the Name of Jesus. Any other teaching isn't Biblical.

Mark 16:15-16 (New International Version, ©2010)

15) He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

I am not questioning what you believe but are you denying the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Also so many think that coming to the cross is as far as they need to go. I say that you need to seek God at His Throne and walk the walk that God has for you which is to be like His Son Jesus the Christ.

The issue in salvation of the soul is not about "filling of the Holy Spirit" (or being baptized). It is about receiving the Lord Jesus, the Christ of God, into one's heart. That one will be sealed by the indwelling Spirit ("born again").

The ref. in Scripture to being "filled by the Spirit" is not the same, and refers to a true believer being whelmed by the Spirit to do a great work. The ref. to "walk in the Spirit" refers to spiritual manner of life by a true believer yielding to God that He might use that one in service.

What is the Gospel of Jesus?

Matthew 28:19 (King James Version)

19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
John 3

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things

So which one is it? So many to pick from?
They're all talking about the same thing, acc. Gal 2:2, cf. 1:8.

How Paul described it to Athens:
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead. Acts 17:30-31

Let us do this the scientific way.

We will start with the end and go backwards till we have the True Salvation.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The next step is to determine who's name and why is not wriiten in the Book of Life.

Does anyone know the answer to this?
