• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm afraid you've just provided 10 words too many in your reply. Try again. ;)
They can't help it.

I'm beginning to think YES or NO questions were phased out in higher academia in favor of essay questions.

They have to fill an hour on test day somehow.

It is a matter of semantics. In the long history of the world, a few choices stand out. The rest are long forgotten.
You choose what you choose. Can we agree on that?
Free will is what you make of it. I feel we have it. The Lord knowing what I'm going to do doesn't mean, to me, that I don't have it; after all, I'm not being forced to do anything.
Some of you feel that if God knows what we're going to do that you don't have Free will. In my opinion you are wrong. Our differing opinions don't negate the other's opinions or make them wrong. I believe I have free will, you don't. It's not verifiable, it's an opinion. And it's way off the topic of the title of the thread.

Some of you feel that if God knows what we're going to do that you don't have Free will.
But, like I'm asking, if we know what we're going to do, is that just as effective in demonstrating that freewill doesn't exist?

Why is it that if God knows what we are going to do, that shows we don't have freewill; but if we know what we are going to do, we do have freewill?

That doesn't make sense.

Oh right. Obviously, all of a sudden you were assuming a completely godless scenario.
In my opinion, it's easier for a Christian to speak sans God or sans Scripture; than it is for a non-Christian to speak God or the Bible.

Have you seen my "Sans Scripture" threads?

Oh, wow.

I'm standing in front of a pop machine with the full-intention of purchasing a Coke, and you guys want to make a deep-thought experiment out of it?

Welcome to philosophy! It's complicated!

They can't help it.

Again, why should all questions be reducible to YES/NO questions? The fact you only do this when people are disagreeing with you makes it apparent that you're trying to engineer the outcome of your questions, like you do with your challenge threads. If you don't like the outcome, you stomp your foot and /thread out. Just because you think tricky topics should be reduced to facile dichotomies doesn't mean anyone has to agree.

What, like the one where you ask if evolution was true what would we look like if we didn't evolve?

Why would God be illogical?
He isn't. Maybe it is you that is illogical. God's logic is not your logic:

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. - Isa 55:8.
Logic is the foundation for mathematics, reason, science, and civilization.
Then logically explain how God enabled a virgin to conceive and a dead man to rise.
It says a lot about your beliefs for you to say that God is illogical.
Comprehension fail. I never said that.
Logic is the language of the human mind - and I thought we were made in God's image. So what's the deal?
When Adam ate the fruit was he making a logical decision?

That's one big reason why I became an atheist (I was born and raised evangelical).
Is it more likely that all people are born atheists and as knowledge increase they become theists? This would mean that adult atheists are slow learners. :D
