  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The pope still exists, though. The question isn't about whether you personally can live/exist, but whether Christianity can survive.
Exactly

Greetings. I see the peter and pope threads are being discussed ad-nauseam again so I would like to make a simple poll for ALL denominations to answer. I am not talking about if he was simply a Bishop of Rome and only for that city but a Grand Pope of all Christianity.

So this poll is quite simple "CAN CHRISTIANITY SURVIVE TODAY WITHOUT THE POPE/PAPACY OF ROME"

You mean to say that it hasn't

with due respect for my brothers and sisters in Christ who do believe that a pope is necessary, i would not wish to do without the office, because i believe that doing so would be harmful to their faith.

I myself don't find it necessary to have a pope, but i wish to place no stumbling stone in their path that would cause them to doubt.

And he rides around in his fancy Pope mobile, wearing royal robes and really big rings. :D

Our blessed apostle Peter sure wasnt laden with silver or gold either

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Theres been quite a change since then ^_^

James 2:2-4 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place;:preach: and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:  Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? :o

Busting on that one, just seem to fit in a strange sorta way ^_^

Peter didnt like folks falling down at his feet and worshipping him

Acts 10:25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church. Jesus will be with the Church until the end of the world.

When the pope goes, we all go.

When the last pope gives back the keys, the world will be over.

Catholicism teaches that St. Peter the Apostle was the first Pope and Bishop of Rome. The Catholic papacy began in the early stages of Patristic Christianity and thus, the necessity and position of the Pope.

Also, in the Coptic Orthodox Church there is a Coptic Pope.

That is absolutely correct. Christ is the head of the Church, not the pope.

Romans 15:12 Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

Rev 22:16 I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Romans 11:18... thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

Even as he is the head

Col 2:19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Obviously Christ is the head of the Church.

Who did he give the keys to the Kingdom to?

Who has the authority to speak for Christ on earth?

Do you? You seem to be claiming that authority.
