Trying to figure this out for you using my new Bible Study program but it's pretty fancy and I am not positive....
I 'think' that the word for vision i Horama

The NAS New Testament Greek Lexicon Strong's Number: 3705 Original WordWord Originoramafrom (3708)Transliterated WordTDNT EntryHorama5:371,706Phonetic SpellingParts of Speechhor'-am-ah Noun Neuter Definition
  1. that which is seen, spectacle
  2. a sight divinely granted in an ecstasy or in a sleep, a vision
NAS Word Usage - Total: 12sight 1, vision 11 NAS Verse Count Matthew1Acts11Total12

It presents both definitions, so the Geneva study Bible is still providing weight to it being a literal experience. Also, when more than a few translation translate it as "seen," I'm pretty sure it was not meant to be a vision but rather a literal experience. I guess you can argue that all those translations are bad or something, but that seems to be a pretty big stretch.

If Jesus' mother appeared to me...

I would want to hug her. I would want to thank her for raising our Lord. I would want to tell how much I love her and Jesus. I may even cry...

What a blessing that would be. :amen:

Hey! Did you mean that like,"so it's no surprise He's using Otto?!"
I can't take this. I'm going to grab a carrot & an apple & go sulk in my stall.;)

Lol. No, my point was that a "better teacher" may not be the best. God often uses the lowly to confound the great.

Like my wife or one of my kids? After all they are all brothers and sisters of Jesus.

But we are talking about someone else. Now are we not?

We are speaking of the woman who carried the Lord, carried God, in her womb for months. She would have breast fed baby Jesus and taught him to walk. Jesus in fully human form with human weaknesses. Jesus trusted His mom to take care of Him. And Jesus would have taken care of her too.

The woman who knew Jesus as no other. The woman who followed him even when they had no home. When many were trying to catch and kill him. The mother at her Son's cross while He was suffering and when He died.

How can I compare that to one of my children or my wife?

I have to believe that if someone truly loves Jesus with all their heart and mind and soul that this person cannot help but to love his mother as well.

Well, by "you" I meant "someone in general" or "a person," not you specifically.

Padre Pio had St Mary appear to him and he also had satan appear to him as St Mary and Padre Pio was able to discern the difference.

If you ever want to know of an apostle of our generation that did works like they did in the Early Church then Padre Pio is a great example. The Holy Spirit was working through him and performing miracles like one would associate with the Apostles.

So far as Padre goes..be careful dude..the false apostles of 2 Corinthians were doing "miracles" too..;)

That hand thing thing..the wounds or whatever...be careful.:)

Thanks. :)

It is good to be concerned for those in His Body, as I am. The Spirit has gifts like discerment to help us. But I am grateful for the concern. All too often another person's concern (or zealousness) is seen as insult.

So thank you. Be careful yourself.

I am sure she was a good human mom.

But what if one of the other family members appeared. they could boast credentials..

They could say they used to play with Jesus as a boy.:)

I see...

Yes, I too think it reasonable that Jesus had siblings from Joseph. You must be speaking of the stories from the Early Church where Joseph is said to have been married before and had children. Of course Joseph was alone because his wife had died and Joseph was far in years (I think 80 or 90). That story is quite awesome with the part where Joseph's staff sprouts a leaf. Very cool.

As a Catholic we adhere to the long taught belief that Mary is "ever virgin" and that God honored her oath of virginity from before Gabriel visited. There are Early Church stories on that as well.

I love the Early Church stories because they confirm all these things. :)

But, even though Jesus had others that were around him while he was raised, it is only Mary that was with Him from conception to death on the cross. She shared a most glorious and yet painful experience with her Son. The New Eve many wrote...

Be careful with that whole breast thing. That came out of paganism..Diana of Ephesus. When they shouted out to Jesus about Mary and her breasts giving suck, Jesus said.."blessed are those who keep the word"..he did that to deflect the whole Diana thing that was prevelant in their day, and sadly continues in the Catholic church.

I am careful. Again, thank you for your concern. :)

Breast feeding is how God created us. The whole thing with Paul and the gentiles/pagans was to show that everything God creates is Good. Breastfeeding included. Paul also said not to eat meat around those that are weak and so I do not wish to "eat meat" around any who are weak.

But God made woman and gave her breasts to feed/milk her young and there is no evil in that. It is beautiful to me.

You do not know the story then or have forgotten.

Joseph was an old man, much like Moses was when he led the Jews.

Mary made a vow to be virginal her whole life before Gabriel ever asked her about bearing the Messiah.

Of course Mary and Joseph never had intercourse. If you have not read the stories early Christians taught their kids and other Christians then you would probably enjoy them.
