Actually ... the commandment says "thou shalt not murder" and not "thou shalt not kill". It is a mistranslation.

A Translation Problem​

The word "kill" in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17 means "murder." The proper translation is THOU SHALT NOT MURDER. It is interesting that in Matthew 19:18 the KJV correctly translates the Sixth Commandment: "Thou shalt do no murder." The Hebrew word (ratsach) and the Greek Word (phonenō) which are used in the Sixth Commandment both clearly mean "murder." The Hebrew language has a general word for killing (the verb muwth, meaning "to cause to die") and the Greek language has a general word for killing (the verb apokteinō), but these general terms for killing are not used in the Sixth Commandment. Instead very specific words are used which forbid MURDER.

That's true...but committing suicide is to murder yourself...and murder is a sin.

So, can one plan on intentionally committing sin and get forgiveness before intentionally committing the sin?

While it may be possible to receive forgiveness if you are still alive after intentionally committing a sin...because you would still be alive to ask for and receive forgiveness.

How can one ask for and receive forgiveness AFTER they have murdered themselves and they are no longer alive on earth?

Once you leave your body, do you have the opportunity to ask for and receive forgiveness??? Nothing in scripture indicates that this is possible.

If that were possible, then everyone in hell would ask for and receive forgiveness and go to Heaven...which isn't happening

Committing murder and not having opportunity to ask for and receive forgiveness...is to die in one's sin.

Don't know about anybody else, but I ruled out suicide years ago because I did not want to die in my sin and receive the judgement of those that have not asked for and received forgiveness.

If one murders one's self, it that defiling one's body?

Since the body belongs to God, we have no right before God to do that.

True, it does say that. And I agree that killing one's self is the same as unjustifiably killing another and is a sin. But that is the whole point of salvation. We deserve punishment for our sins, with the ultimiate expression of that punishment being eternity in Hell. However, by Christ's blood, our punishment has been taken from us. When we receive Christ, he forgives us of all sins - past and future. He who is outside of time can certainly forgive all things within time. Commiting suicide would just be our last sin. Since in the eyes of a Holy and just God all sins against Him are equally wrong, an equivalent question would be, "Would I go to Hell if my last sin was stealing a candy bar from a Wal-greens".

For Christians, sinning against God from now till death (including suicide) doesn't affect our inheritance. But it does affect our current relationship with Him.

It says "Thou shalt not murder"...in the original Hebrew

As an example...If somebody breaks in to your house, you have the God given right to take their life in order to protect youself, your family, and your property.

Only in self defense. Just for finding him there you don't have the right to kill him. If he attacks you you do. If he doesn't you may stop him, and if then you kill him 'accidentally' (without intention), then you are not guilty. But if you say "you filthy scum bag thief" (after finding him stealing) and launch yourself upon him and murder him .. well, you are guilty in that case. I believe you are not guilty (in the eyes of God) if it wasn't intentional, like when in self defense (if the thief attacks you or your family).

if you are truly saved and have true faith in Christ to get you through anything the world has to offer, this is required for salvation the way I read it. how could you kill yourself and why would you?

I do not believe that suicide would send a person to Hell in most cases. The reason is because the typical suicidal person is psychotic. Psychosis prevents a person from thinking correctly.

If you are born again, you cannot sin, so yes, technically, if you commit suicide, you go to heaven. The bible does mention, however, rewards for those who believe but still do certain things as per 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.

"11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. "

So one may possibly be forgoing those possibilities of reward even if they are saved technically.

The traditional interpretation has appeared to exclude the killing of animals and the killing of another human being in the name of country or whatever else during times of war. So, when is it that the commandment that "Thou shalt not kill" begin and where does it end?

Although, I may not be entirely sure that a person who is driven to suicide is saved, I really don't think that the commandment that we aren't to kill one another can be used against suicide since the interpretation appears to only cover only certain instances of killing another while leaving out others.

This was something that I have been wondering for some time, where in the bible does it actually say that suicide will send you to Hell?

It doesn't. That's a Catholic tradition, not a Biblical teaching.
