The way I understood that is they constructed their own reality so they could all find each other and meet up. They weren't able to die - which explains why Desmond wasn't at all fussed about running down Locke with the car.

But they could bleed because it was a reality of their own making - if they thought they could bleed then they would. Also explains how Jack kept having that bloody spot on his neck without any cause - it was a part of his mind and memory manifesting in the self-constructed reality.

Something about their psyche's reaching out toward one another even though they couldn't consciously remember one another until they'd undergone a period of self-realization.

Or something like that.

Way back when Lost first started, I thought the writers said that everything that happened on the island could be explained with a natural real world explanation. Am i remembering that right? After time that became "a psuedo science" explanation , and finally into a mythical or magical explanation. Don't get me wrong; i loved the series but by the end I think they ventured off the original train of thought. It was nice to see Hurley and Ben working together; especially after Hugo threw a piping hot microwave burrito at Ben and considering their general history. Was Alex there at the church?

Shannon! thank you.

oh and i'm wrong. i just replayed the last scene on my itunes account and caught a single glimpse of boone. so its him, Christian, and locke. everyone is else a couple.

hmm. although the theory that the sideways flashes are all just the making of the characters makes me wonder too - why is Aaron a newborn? You'd think in his reality he'd wanna be a bit older than that, hey?

I'm on another forum that has great discussions about Lost every week. One person said that the reason for Aaron being young is that "they sought each other out and remembered each other how they were. That's why Aaron was a baby."

Another person thought that Jack's son was to help him work through his daddy issues, but I'm not really sure about that one.

I hated how they killed off everybody who had a difficult story to explain. Deus ex machina.

Illiana: Had complete trust in Jacob's assertion that Richard would know what to do.. The writers decide they themselves don't know what to do, so they blow her up.

Walt: kept popping up around the island drenched in water & speaking backwards or something. After that, we never heard from him again. Poof!

Sayid: Became "corrupted" and easily manipulated, no emotions or feeling. Never explained the nature of what happened in the Temple. All of a sudden, he changes and comes back to normal. The writers don't want to deal with explaining any of this or what Locke's true motive with him were, so they have him kill himself to save everyone else. I was really disappointed with their treatment of Sayid. He had such a strong back story and connection with Nadia, but the writers make it seem like that brat Shannon was more important to him. Blah.

Thanks, everyone for all the spoilers. :) I was hoping this thread would bring it out of some of you fans! I never watched a single episode, but was always intrigued by the concept of this hidden "grander scheme" underlying the entire show.

After reading all of the posts, I agree with LoneSheep:

I'm glad I never watched Lost at all now. The ending sounds just as ridiculous as the entire series :p

^_^

I hope it was at least pretty decent for the lot of you. Judging from the poll, not many thought it sucked. :D

Even though I didn't love the ending. I loved the series and don't regret watching and being a "lostie". I loved how different it was and how every episode made you want to know the answers and I loved the international cast.
A part of the finale that I really liked was how they mirrored the opening scene of the entire series. Jack first woke up on the island in the bamboo with Vincent by his side, and that is how he left it.

I agree, Mina. It was a great show. My second favorite TV series of all time. And it ended better than my first favorite TV series which jumped the shark two seasons before they finally called it quits (The X-Files).

All in all, I wasn't terribly happy about the finale, but I will still be re-watching the series. And I still would recommend it to people who didn't get in from the beginning.
