  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That is a myth taught in our schools. The Puritans came here to set up a theocratic state of their own so that they could exclude everybody else. Religious freedom - Not.

The Massachusetts Bay Colony was only one of thirteen and it was the only one which met your criteria. The others had religious liberty to varying degrees, as discussed previously on this thread.

Well, Georgia was a penal colony. Not sure if you want to claim that as a bastion of religious liberty.

There were many anti-catholic laws.

Like Catholics could not vote. Could not own land. Could not send their children to school nor colleges. That why there are Catholic schools and colleges.

Is that why there are Lutheran schools and colleges too (not to mention Presbyterian, Congregational, Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian, etc.)?

The short answer is yes. If you look up their webpage you will see that virtually everyone in the photograph has blonde hair and blue eyes. There never have been any Orthodox Christians in Pella other than the pirest and, perhaps a handful of workers the the Pella Corporation.

If they come to the EO, this is not the same as going after them to grab them from their existing denomination. And, not all EO historically were dark haired, so the hair color of these parishioners is a curious observation ^_^
Do you think all Russians are dark haired and dark eyed ?

Maybe all except the Rus. That is the Vikings from Sweden who went there instead of raiding England.

Modern Russians have a great deal of Scandinavian DNA.

Is that Georgia the former Soviet Socialist Republic or George the former English colony? BTW, Australia was the English penal colony to end all penal colonies and look where they are now.

The English colonies in North America (MBC excepted) were bastions of religious liberty relative to the Spanish and Portuguese colonies. However, relative to the present United States religious liberty was only a relative thing. Even the Massachusetts Bay Colony was Anglican by strict definition and was governed by an Anglican governor who constructed King's Chapel in Boston, much to the detestation of the Puritans.

missioning to the Protestants? I just figured it out, the OC does not use the word evangelize, it's 'missioning.
:)

Matt 23:34 "Because of this behold! I am Commissioning/apostellw <649> toward ye Prophets and Wise-men and Scribes.
Out of Them Ye shall be killing and ye shall be crucifying, and out of them ye shall be scourging in the Synagogues of ye and ye shall be persecuting/persuing from city into city"
[Matt 24:9/Reve 11:7]

649. apostello ap-os-tel'-lo from 575 and 4724; set apart, i.e. (by implication) to send out (properly, on a mission) literally or figuratively:--put in, send (away, forth, out), set (at liberty).

Of course not, but in light of the fact that this is a Dutch town, it is as likely that the parishioners of this mission are Orthodox by birth as it is that the residents of Mink, Byelorussa are Sioux Indians.:)

So what is the Orthodox Mission doing in Pella, Iowa, which is a Dutch Reformed (Protestant) town?
they are just starting a Church, not forcing protestants or anyone else to join them. someone else just explained that but obviously you didn't listen.

GITMO is the penal colony to end all penal colonies where inmates are being evangelizied to.

I would be quite amazed that anyone in Pella, Iowa was being forced to do anything. This is, after all, a free country. I would be also quite amazed that any missionary (Protestant or otherwise) anywhere on this planet would be allowed to force anyone into their religion. In fact, in India there are strict anti-conversion laws in several states.

On the other hand, I am not in the least bit surprised that many religions work extremely diligently to retain their members, upon pain of death as in Islam.
