  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This Thread Will End All Debate On The Sabbath Once And For All

A particularly hilarious one is:
Gospel of Thomas 114 said:
114. Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life." Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

I have been given a parable for you.

Two children walked in the woods trying to find their lost medallions.. the first child scanned the surface and decided it would be to hard to find so he got dismayed and left the woods. The other child dug under trees and lifted fallen logs and branches. The first child decided to ask a rich man where he thought the missing medallion might be, the man said he surely knew and gave him directions drawing him a map so he wouldn't get lost, he took the directions to their end, not finding his beloved medlallion; instead he found and settled for a shiny rock saying this is better than my lost medallion, it was easy to find and I love it. While the other child spent many years by himself looking all around until one day he found in in a hollowed out log nestled in some bushes. When the child found his medallion he looked at it and said to himself "this is the most beautiful possession I own, from this day forth I shall wear it around my kneck so nobody can part me from it."

Unfortunatly, he never discovered that the medallion he found in the Nag Hammadi log was in fact a counterfeit. So he stopped looking before he ever found the true medallion.

You point...?

This one isn't funny if you take the time to think about its meaning. What are women known for? Jealousy, deceit, hating other women...

Wow. Just wow.

What are men known for? Trying to find the good in things, bringing peace.. trying to be honorable.. it is clear this is what he meant.. he wasn't promoting hermaphradites or any other ridiculousness

Do us a favor: do a little research into Gnosticism. Learn what they believe, what they practice, and why. Then reread this Gnostic gospel.

You'll see how the pieces of the puzzle fall right into place.

I don't care what gnostics believe nor do i care about your misconception.. I am not walking in a path illuminated with my own lamp, for I don't own a lamp, I walk a path illuminated by stars because I recognize my need for heaven along my journey.

The problem is that you are promoting Gnosticism without realizing it.

Gnosticism teaches that the female was inferior to the male; always has.

In Christianity, we teach that men and women are both equally human as per Genesis 1 and St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 3:28.

I am not "misconceived." With the greatest of respect, I teach catechism at my parish and know enough about Gnosticism. After all, I have read their Scriptures; the so-called "Gospel of St. Thomas" is among them.

Don't believe me? Ask them!

I don't even know why you're defending a gnostic text.

I think you should be guided by the Bible (at least) rather than the stars.
