Leaving the Jesus statement out for now, I'll explain myself again.Let's back this train up here --- I interpret Genesis 1 via the historical-grammatical method of interpretation.

You may see the same, or very similar words, but fail to acknowledge the wide difference between you and the human writer, and the people to whom it is written. Specifically, do you think Gen 1 was written to lay out scientifically how the earth was created?
I do not see Genesis 1 as a science text, but a Creation narrative. Like many parts of the Bible, more interested in the people.
BUT, maybe you should think of it differently. To you, if evolution did occur, how would Genesis be different? For most Christian, for instance, it would not have to be different.
