  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why take such a stand against homosexuality?

You have to understand that God didn't make you gay. He did not mean for you to be gay? The sinner who feels the urge to steal, or to fornicate, or to lie and cheat, they cannot give the excuse to their problem by just simply saying that perhaps God made them that way.

He did not intend for us to be sinners, but we are. We all have the urge to sin, it is in our nature. But this is the exact reason why Jesus came. To save us from that. If we will abide in him, we will be saved.

You are not gay; you are a sinner. Plain and simple. But God loves you. He knows the desires of your heart, and he wants to show how you can be perfected through him.

There is something more powerful and magical being in a relationship with the opposite sex rather than simply fulfilling the desires of your heart.

It is different. You feel more connected with God. Because this relationship that he meant for you is blessed.

Don't be discouraged. These feelings will pass if you endure with faith in God. If you continue in these acts, it will only bring you misery. Satan may have given you the feeling that you are powerful and free now, but what you don't understand is that you are in his grasp. He has power and control over you, and you are exactly where he wants you.

Take Jesus' hand. He wants to show great things. He wants to see you "come out" of the things of this earth, and make you truly free. To conquer over it.

Trust in him. He will never abandon you. Psalm 16:10

I'm not specifically addressing your post - for now at least - but I just want to strike while the iron is hot. How do YOU respond to those 'sins' as pointed out by BigBadWlf? Such as:

* slavery
* eating shellfish and other 'unclean' foods
* cutting one's hair
* shaving
* killing disobedient children
* stalking a woman during her period
* wearing polycotton blends
* and so on and so forth . . .?

Are those who are disobedient to the above commands of God in the grip of Satan? Will these 'feelings' pertaining to the above pass if one endures with faith in God?

I'm not meaning to belittle you - especially since you come across with a kind spirit. It's just difficult for many to reconcile the commands above - as well as many others - with the loving God that you espouse.

Why should we resist the urge to steal, fornicate, lie, cheat? Simply: there is oodles of objectively verifiable evidence that those things are harmful to you and/or those around you. Homosexuality shows no such thing.

Tell me: I feel the urge to eat. Should I resist this? Why or why not?

You are not gay; you are a sinner. Plain and simple. But God loves you. He knows the desires of your heart, and he wants to show how you can be perfected through him.
Replace 'gay' with 'hungry', and you'll see the flaw in your argument. We all have urges, no one denies this. We all have the urge to eat, drink, poop, and sleep. Some feel the urge to find a partner of the opposite sex. Some feel the urge to find a partner of the same sex. Some feel the urge to start a family. Some feel the urge to be a hermit. Some feel the urge to rape, pillage and steal. Some feel the urge to protect the raped, pillaged, and thieved.

Why should some urges be condoned, and the rest condemned? How do you discern the 'good' urges from the 'bad'?

There is something more powerful and magical being in a relationship with the opposite sex rather than simply fulfilling the desires of your heart.
Which shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be 'gay'. I do not have carnal urges to molest my fellow males, but rather I am 'attracted' to them in the same way heterosexual females are.

It is different. You feel more connected with God.
Can you justify this, or are you simply assuming that homosexuals in a loving, committed, monogamous, same-sex couple cannot feel "more connected with God" because of their union?

Don't be discouraged. These feelings will pass if you endure with faith in God. If you continue in these acts, it will only bring you misery.[/quote]
Can you justify this claim, or is it an empty threat?

I have a few gay friends who will be interested to know this. Of course their first question will be: “If God didn’t make me gay who did? The tooth fairy?”

The sinner who feels the urge to steal, or to fornicate, or to lie and cheat, they cannot give the excuse to their problem by just simply saying that perhaps God made them that way.
Interesting collection of people you have assembled here to compare to our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.
I have to wonder would you compare any other minority to such people?
Would you think it fine to compare blacks to thieves for example?

You are not gay; you are a sinner. Plain and simple. But God loves you. He knows the desires of your heart, and he wants to show how you can be perfected through him.

I may not be gay but I know a lot of people who are. And they are more than willing to contradict you on this and say that yes they are indeed gay

There is something more powerful and magical being in a relationship with the opposite sex rather than simply fulfilling the desires of your heart.
Because all being gay is about is fulfilling physical desire right?

And all gays have to do is indulge in self hatred and start lying. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to do this

I know you are confused, but you have to understand that all these things came out of my heart from the Spirit. I do not belittle these people who choose to be gay. I love them. God loves them.
Christianity only touches the hearts who place their faith in Jesus. If you are having troubles with what I wrote, then you need to pray to God. I am only the messanger. Take these questions to God.

Curious as to when you chose to be heterosexual rather than homosexual. Was it a well thought out decision, weighing the pros and cons of each? Did you seek advice from anyone? Read any material on the subject before deciding?

You seem to be very nice so I'm not going to critisize you. But I take issue with the bolded part. It is wrong to belittle any kind of love people have for one another. One of my best friends is a lesbian who has been with her partner for many many years. I'd say that they love each other.

Also, to Washington: it has everything to do with what you said. Show me a "Christian" who follows every single law in the Torah, and you'll show me a fundamentalist Jew.

The Old Testement/Torah is a combination of a history of the Israelites and their interactions with a being they didn't fully understand. Some of it is true, some is parable, some is downright bizzarre (bats are birds, the talking donkey, ect.). I choose to follow only what Jesus says in the New Testement, as do many other Christians. Notice I said many, also, not all.

No, I’m not confused at all

No one chooses to be gay, just as no one chooses to be black or chooses to be left-handed. Gays and lesbians do however choose to be honest about who they are (and sadly some shoose to lie about who they are.)

Christianity only touches the hearts who place their faith in Jesus. If you are having troubles with what I wrote, then you need to pray to God. I am only the messanger. Take these questions to God.
The implication being that anyone who doesn’t share your opinions cannot be a Christian.

i must admit that many times in my life, Satan tempted me to become gay. I broke free from this. The scriptures told me that I was a sinner, and that these desires were of the Devil, and not of God's plan for my life. Then the Spirit awoken me and told me that I was not labeled by my sexuality, that God had more in store for me than petty things such as this.

I feel as though you are so disturbed by the fact that the world is turning their backs on your friends because they have come out. And you see this, and your heart is breaking. So you come on this chat to declare their rights and protect them.

But you are losing a losing battle. Gods word was in the beginning, and before He comes again, his word will still stand. He is the beginning and the last.

I can tell that you love your friends very much and don't want to see them get hurt. Your love defines who you are, and I respect that.

Then, in your opinion, Christians would do far better to cut out the Old Testament and cut out everything that isn't a gospel for your Bible? Except the NT writers seem very happy to reference the OT, and I would venture to guess that much of them, and in fact Jesus himself, believed and followed the OT laws. Jesus seemed to have a problem with the interpretation of some of the Jewish leaders, not the text itself.

It isn't until you get to Paul's letters where you find real, direct attacks on the OT law.

Jesus released us from observance of Old Testament laws in favour of his 2 new commandments. He also said "The law was made for man, man wasn't made for the law".

Tempted with what? A new car? Chocolate? What ever was behind curtain number 3?

So love and commitment and family are…”petty”?

I feel as though you are so disturbed by the fact that the world is turning their backs on your friends because they have come out. And you see this, and your heart is breaking. So you come on this chat to declare their rights and protect them.
Yes if only my gay friends would start lying about who they are and start hating themselves I would be so much happier for them
(that was sarcasm by the way)

You do realize that gays and lesbians live full happy healthy sprit filled lives don’t you?
That they have careers, families children?
That they contribute to society in until ways?

Hmmm….maybe you don’t realize

But you are losing a losing battle. Gods word was in the beginning, and before He comes again, his word will still stand. He is the beginning and the last.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

Wait…no that isn’t the word you are talking about.

I can tell that you love your friends very much and don't want to see them get hurt. Your love defines who you are, and I respect that.
But not enough for you to emulate it

Given the stigma, why would anyone choose to be gay? I do not wake up and decide to be attracted to men. I simply am.

God has a tendency to ignore my prayers. It's why I'm no longer a Christian: silence at the other end of the phone line sounds exactly the same whether the person is being quiet, or if they're not there at all.

The invisible and non-existent sound very much alike.

Could you not pray on my behalf, and relay the response?

Your love for your friends is so amazing! That you would spend all your time on here for them. You are truly a great friend to them. There are very few friends in this world. Many others wouldn't dedicate their time to protecting their friends as you. Many would simply ignore the fact that they are hurting. But you see that they are suffering and you help them. I am so glad that you would do this for them. You should be proud of yourself. Your love for them astounds me.

The two new commandments that already existed in the OT? ;)
But not explicitly given as such. As far as I can see, if we are following Christ, monogomous, loving consentual homosexual relationships are perfectly fine. I see nothing in Christ's words to suggest otherwise.
