  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Contrary to the prophecy in 48:21, Joseph died in Egypt, not Israel. Gen.50:24

God promises to cast out many nations including the Canaanites and the Jebusites. But he was unable to fulfill his promise. 33:2

God says that the Israelites will destroy all of the peoples they encounter. But according to Joshua ( 15:63, 16:10, 17:12-13) and Judges (1:21, 27-36, 3:1-5) there were some people they just couldn't kill. 7:24

Joshua tells the Israelites that God will "without fail" drive out the Canaanites and the Jebusites. But later, the Bible tells us that he could not drive them out. 3:10

Ezekiel prophesies that Tyrus will be completely destroyed by Nebuchadrezzar and will never be built again. But it wasn't destroyed, as evidenced by the visits to Tyre by Jesus and Paul (Mt.15:21, Mk.7:24, 31, Acts 21:3). 26:14,21, 27:36, 28:19

No, Neb, as I pointed out was only to do some of it. God was the one that said it would be scraped, and never return to it's former glory, just be a fishing village sort of thing.

The body of Joseph was brought back, this is news? Do you think his tomb is in Egypt??

Ge 50:25 - And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
Ex 13:19 - And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.

Jos 24:32 -And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
And the truth goes marching on!

Don't forget flying cars! Those "scientists" were always promising us flying cars and I still drive around this crummy Yaris. Sheesh. Wanky wanky! Science clearly has failed completely.

Of course it means something. A false charge was made about the bible being wrong. As always, through time and history, that charge was hung up to dry, and had the dust beaten out of it. Yes, biblical prophesy always ends up on top.

But, apparently that isn't your forte. Maybe you can defend the universe in a speck dream called science, or take the evolving trait all the way to the pond, as the starting point for it, or something related to the claims of science, so called?

Would you say that clear concise English prose is your forte?

No, but it is my first language, I suppose I take too much liberty in bending a phrase now and then. At least I generally comprehend what I am talking about. That can be fun.

Anyhow, if all you feel you can contribute to a science thread, is grammar improvement suggestions, that is OK. In your own little way, you are important.

Among other things.

At least I generally comprehend what I am talking about.

As long as someone does...

So is it a good idea to give wine to those who are in deep sorrow?

Don'tcha just love these never-ending questions, Dad?

Nobody knows anything, until we make a definite statement, then suddenly they know everything from what Augustine said to what Zoroaster said on the subject.

"[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Geneva] and wine to those that be of heavy heart;
of melancholy dispositions, under gloomy apprehensions of things; pressed with the weight of their affliction and poverty: or, "bitter in soul" F9; such as God has dealt bitterly with, as Naomi says was her case, and therefore called her own name Marah, which signifies bitter; of such a sorrowful spirit, and one thus bitter in soul, was Hannah; and so Job, and others; persons in great affliction and distress, to whom life itself is bitter; see (Ruth 1:20) (1 Samuel 1:10) (Job 3:20) (10:1) ; now wine to such is very exhilarating and cheering; see (Judges 9:13) (Psalms 104:15) . These days, I think morphine is used when people get near the end. But, apparently, what is meant is something a little more serious that a casual modern reading of beinng in 'sorrow'. So??

I understand the frustration, and desperation of those whose ship was sunk, in the science dept. Thet seek any straw, that might somehow make the bad bible go away, and the world be normal again. But I also notice a pattern of weaker agrguments, after the initial ones were blasted out of the water. :)

Reminds me of the new president a bit. I heard a clip, where he was more or less mocking the bible. Asking whether we might want to accept Leviticus, and etc, if we were to accept the bible, or some such. When I first got saved, someone approached me with a book called at the time, the satanic bible. It was, basically doubts and supposed contradictions, on all kinds of places from the bible. The example I remember was, --answer a fool according to his folly..... and

....answer not a fool according to his folly.

At the time, I was weak in faith, and it seemed somewhat scary, that maybe God, and the bible were false, or wrong. I have heard many variations since, most of the time, people have no idea what the inspiration of their doubts are. But they are usually almost verbatim, and I feel I know the source. They often surface in a debate as well.

It is a bit chilling to think that the president is on that page, apparently. But I digress...

I found another absurdity in science:

1 day = 24 hours. 24 hours / 1 day X 60 minutes / 1 hour = 1440 min /day
Now the Earth spins 360 degrees in one day.
But 360 degrees / 1 day X 60 minutes/ 1 degree = 21600 minutes / 1 day.
Thus we have shown that 1440 = 21600.

Why hasn’t anyone noticed this before?

I would like to ask dad, was this true before the "split"?

PS: This would also seem to take care of AV1611VET's Pluto conundrum: Pluto was a planet before the split, but not now.

Sometimes I understand what you're saying but I cannot for the life of me comprehend how you can believe such a thing

Other times I just have no idea what you're talking about.
So you get it a lot of the time. OK. Pretty good for a high school kid.

Don't expect to get it all. Some posters deal in weighty matters.

Well i for one am not going to feed these egos any more.

ps boys you could hardly do your cause..if it were Christianity.. more harm if you tried.
So you wouldn't take it from us any more than the missionaries you said you used for English lessons? OK. Tell me who is a great example in your books? maybe the pope, who I think accepted evolution? Is that the one that rocks your world? Or is the message what you don't like?

PS the science you funneled in here will be missed.

No, I doubt it. Unless you have some reason to say it was.

Right there is your problem.

It should say 1 hour, not 1 degree.

It spins 21600 degrees / 1 day.

And what'll take care of my "Pluto conundrum" is if someone on here besides me agrees with those scientists who disagreed with the IAU vote.

I find your 100% automatic unanimity highly, highly suspect.

^_^

AV, a "minute" is both a unit of measuring time, and of measuring angle. Just as there are 60 minutes in one hour, there are also 60 minutes in one degree. Gracchus was just making use of this rather confusing notation that uses the same name for two rather different measures.

In order to avoid confusion, 1/60th of a degree is often called an "arcminute" or "minute of arc".
