  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When you use the word "abomination" you are pulling from the Old Testament, or Torah as Jews would call it. The word in Hebrew is "to'evah" and it also applied to other actions, such as eating shellfish. If you are going to use the word, you must also call yourself one if you have ever eaten shellfish or gone against any of the other dietary orders.

However, you will counter and tell me that Jesus lifted those. That's fine, and I can agree with you. So, stop using the word "abomination" please. Thanks.

I used both the word abomination and the statement "will not inherit the kingdom of God" One, as you say is from the old Testament. The other is from the New Testament.

(1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Have I pasted what it says or not?

It also makes it look as if marriage is reduced simply to sex.

But then that's why I keep popping into threads like this and eventually asking what marriage actually is. Legal contract? Sexual relationship? Personal relationship? Religious ceremony? Holy state bestowed by a deity?

All of the above? None? Some? Or just whichever best fits one's argument at the time?

I haven't gotten an answer yet. But then I've also not started a thread about it either. So who knows.

When you use the word, you are pulling it directly from the Old Testament. I now contend you are an abomination! You must have eaten shellfish, combined dairy with meat (cheeseburger anyone), had pork, or any of the other restrictions that exist.

My issue is you pull that word out when you want, but don't apply it to all practices that are listed under it, only the ones you don't really like. Stop using that word.

You'll notice that nobody in the New Testament uses it to describe homosexuality, not even Jesus. So, please... stop using the word.

Thanks, you abomination!

There was no word for homosexuality back then so I wonder what word they decided meant homosexuality and who exactly decided it, was it a homophobe or someone that is not very good at translation.

Is your a partner the same sex as you?
Why yes, he is.

Is it a sexual relationship?
I haven't asked for a peek into your bedroom.
I will ask of you the same comon courtesy that should be automatic for one who claims to be Christian.

If so how do you work around what the Bible says about man lying with man or woman lying with woman being an abomination and those who do it will never inherit the kingdom of heaven?

I think I said it 30 or 40 pages ago. You appear to be trapped in some kind of literalist, idolatrous reading of the bible that helps nobody. Read in context, the bible does not condemn homosexuality in the least.

I'm genuinely curious. I know several gays a few of whom once claimed to be children of God. They "quit" (as if that were possible, as if Christ could lose one of His own) because they could not get around scriptures that clearly teach against homosexuality.

"Clearly?"
The only perfectly clear thing is that people of good conscience, prayerfulness, and scholarship disagree on the issue. You are on one side of it, I am on another. (and I'm not alone)

You only quoted half of his post. He wasn't interested in their sex lives, he was asking to establish the basis of his question. Trust me, most people are not interested in a homosexual's sex life. I'm certainly not.

Those restrictions (food) do not exist. If you had ever picked up a Bible you'd know this. God struck down the dietary laws. I can give you the chapter and verse so you can look it up yourself.

He however did NOT strike down the law about homosexuality (or many others). I've already shown you that passage. Now if you can show me one where He has go for it.

I've noted this with many. Sex obsession. It's all about sex. If sex wasn't involved, I doubt any of you would care but it is, because that's what you think about. There is so much more to life, to relationships, to love.

I must be a closet homosexual.

Figured I'd save you the work up to that statement and just throw it out there for you now. You can thank me later.

I find sex to be a very interesting topic since it is very natural and comes in so many forms so there is always more to learn which can only benefit you and your partner or partners.

That is what it's about. Every time I've seen OT scripture posted it was about sex. It wasn't about love, it wasn't about relationships. It's not about building lives together. The crux is sex and no person has any business inquiring about a person's sex life. Call me old fashioned.

I'm on your "side," but I'd like the chapter and verse for the next time someone uses the infamous "shellfish" argument.

So you agree that same sex "sex" is wrong?

How can learning about homosexual sex benefit me in any way?

So now because I recount what the scriptures say happened that means I support polygamy?

I am saying that a person who takes the bible literally, and agrees with the pope's monstrous pronouncement, and seems to talk all about "traditional marriage" - using the passage you used seems strange.

I honestly don't get you. You claim to be a Christian yet anything that the Bible says you discount. Very strange.

Now WHERE have I discounted "anything the bible says?"

I read, mark, & learn scripture every day.

What I discount is your poorly translated, disastrous interpretation. Over the centuries, like-minded people performed the most uspeakable, evil, violent and murderous acts against people who were assumed to be gay. And they felt justified in doing so by reading the scriptures the way you appear to.
